'Bodies or Lace' takes lace as a starting point. We show old and contemporary lace, but we also use lace as a metaphor and we look for the beauty of the complex, unpredictable swarm in music and body. A ‘body of lace’ is a tiny chiseled work full of devotion and detail, a structured tangle that shows and feels like a transparent network. We look for different bodies of lace, not only in different media, but also in different cultures.
‘Bodies of Lace’ is a work about the body and its impact. Points, lines, strings, wires graft onto and wallow around bodies. Detail, precision, velocity, time, rhythm, gesture, pattern, repetition, unexpected turn, scarcity, resonance, abundance. In music, lace, dance. Like lace, the cello spans space and time with string, wire and precision of the hands. As no other contemporary cellist, Arne Deforce conjures a maximum of finesse and power from his instrument. Choreographer Pé Vermeersch models the swarm in her body, surrenders to the lace-using hands and makes use of texts by Paul Vandenbroeck to reinforce the story of the tissues.
The performance takes about 50 minutes, after which the audience is given time to look at the work unfolded. Radical HeArts is a collective of Pé Vermeersch and Paul Vandenbroeck.

‘Bodies of Lace’ neemt kantwerk als uitgangspunt. We laten oud en hedendaags kantwerk zien, maar we gebruiken kant ook als metafoor en zoeken naar de schoonheid van de complexe, onvoorspelbare wemeling in muziek en lichaam. Een ‘lichaam van kant’ is een minuscuul gebeiteld werk vol overgave aan detail, een gestructureerde wirwar die leest en aanvoelt als een transparant netwerk. We zoeken naar verschillende lichamen van kant, niet alleen in verschillende media, maar ook in verschillende culturen.
‘Bodies of Lac’ is een werk over het lichaam en zijn impact. Punten, lijnen, snaren, draden enten zich op en wentelen zich om lichamen. Detail, precisie, aanslag, tijd, ritme, gebaar, patroon, herhaling, onverwachte wending, schaarste, resonantie, overvloed. In de muziek, kantwerk en dans. Net als kantwerk spant ook de cello ruimte en tijd met koord, draad en precisie van de handen. Arne Deforce haalt als geen andere hedendaagse cellist een maximale finesse en power uit zijn instrument. Choreografe Pé Vermeersch boetseert op gevoelige wijze de wemeling in haar lijf, geeft zich over aan de kant klossende handen en bedient zich tegelijk van teksten van Paul Vandenbroeck om het verhaal van de weefsels kracht bij te zetten.
De performance duurt ongeveer 50 minuten, waarna het publiek de tijd krijgt om naar de ontvouwde werken te kijken. Radical HeArts is een collectief van Pé Vermeersch en Paul Vandenbroeck.
