EMILIE AUTUMN
Emilie Autumn (born September 22nd, 1979 in Los Angeles, California, United States, currently residing in Chicago) is a violinist, singer-songwriter, poet and author. She is best known for her wide range of musical styles, especially her usage of theatrics.
Autumn started learning the violin at the age of four, and trained in conservatories as a composer, conductor, and music historian, but moved into popular music. After spending a summer in France recording with Courtney Love which followed shortly when her solo album Enchant was released, Autumn was invited to join Love’s touring band, The Chelsea.
She quickly gained attention as a solo performer, and was chosen as one of Interview Magazine’s “14 to Be”, a pictorial featuring fourteen up-and-coming young female stars.
Autumn debut album was a solo violin recording. Recorded when she was seventeen, On a Day…,(now known as ‘Laced’ in the double-feature violin album ‘Laced/Unlaced’) with the label she created and still controls, Traitor Records. Since the creation of her own production company, Autumn has branched out to create a number of side projects (The Jane Brooks Project, RavenSong, and Convent (not the metal band convent)).
Her work as now as a solo performer includes two studio album releases ‘Enchant’ in 2002 and ‘Opheliac’ in 2006 as well as numerous EPs (such as Liar & Dead is the New Alive EP and the 4 O’ Clock EP) and a double-feature violin album, Laced/ Unlaced, starring the classical/baroque violin with its interpretations of pieces by the masters as well as Autumn’s own pieces and the electric violin in its shredding glory that continues where the classical/baroque violin album, formerly known as back then as ‘On a Day.
