”And I catch myself. Talking to your ghost. Anything to keep you close.”
Formed in New Jersey and later taking root in San Francisco, Sunshine Blind emerged in the early 90s as a quietly commanding presence in the darkwave and gothic scene. From 1991 to 2004, CWHK and Caroline Blind, the creative core of the band, crafted three studio albums—Love the Sky to Death (1995), Liquid (1997), and I Carry You (2003)—each one a shadowed yet melodic journey through longing, memory, and atmospheric depth. On stage, they shared the night with The Wake, Faith and the Muse, and Switchblade Symphony, becoming regulars at early Convergence festivals and venturing to Whitby Goth Weekend and Wave-Gotik-Treffen, carrying their moody sound to audiences both near and far.
Though the band dissolved in 2004, the music never truly ended. Caroline explored new horizons with her solo album The Spell Between (2020) and formed the downtempo duo Voidant with Dave ‘Wolfie’ Wolfenden, while the live band occasionally reunited between 2010 and 2018, joined by original drummer Geoff Bruce and longtime collaborator William Faith on bass.
In 2023, after years of separate musical journeys and experiments, CWHK and Caroline returned to each other, drawn back together by a creative connection that time and distance had only deepened. Their reunion is not a simple revival—it is a reawakening of the past, a weaving of old chemistry with new experiences, producing music that feels both comfortably familiar and startlingly alive. Sunshine Blind’s story has always been one of shadows and resonance, and now those shadows stretch into new shapes, echoing the depth of their shared history while hinting at unexplored darkness yet to come.
In the midst of 2025, Sunshine Blind break their long silence, delivering Scarred but Fearless, a two-track single for Bandcamp Friday. The release brings Ghost of You, a driving, kinetic song, and the defiant, anthemic Unsinkable—tracks that pulse with the restless energy the band has always conjured, a reminder that their shadows stretch further than time.
Frontwoman Caroline Blind explains the inspiration behind the new material: Ghost of You evokes movement and speed, a “driving as a metaphor” for processing thoughts and emotions, while Unsinkable is a song of triumph over adversity, a personal rallying cry and a stand against injustice, particularly aimed at those who have faced societal pressures and gaslighting. Its chorus—“We're sick of carrying that which is not our shame”—resonates like a declaration of refusal and resilience.
The single is a new chapter and a continuation at once, like the autumn wind that slowly drives out the lingering warmth of summer—whispering through empty streets, rustling with the weight of memories, brushing against every shadow and corner, reshaping everything it touches, carrying both the chill of endings and the strange beauty of beginnings.
Scarred But Fearless is available now as a digital download on Bandcamp and streaming on Spotify and all major platforms.
