SJOBLOM — Tape

With a tribal beat, SJÖBLOM comes back with another thorough song on Reptile Music that tacks towards the indie wave side of the post-punk spectrum. It has always been difficult to put Sjöblom in any particular genre though. Big guitar chords and solo work intermix with the electronics to make a super catchy pop-oriented track ready to fill larger venues with the sounds of Johan Sjöblom Eliot’s reassuring crooning. The remixes are outstanding, including one from xotox that completely reworks the indie track into a near drum and bass mantra pounded out by industrial machinery. It’s more of a completely different perspective than a remix. It keeps faith with the original and is very cool way to finish off the single. A second single, “Brand New Life,” from the forthcoming full-length, “Demons,” is also available. It too keeps up steady song writing and the big production sounds on “Tape” and recruited some luminaries of the more electronic side of the spectrum, Agent Side Grinder, Messer Bruder, and Ohne Nomen, to contribute entertaining remixes. Together they make “Demons” a highly anticipated synthpop-post punk crossover release.
