Concert in AB, Brussels on the 3rd of June 2013
Bauhaus – established in ’78 – has been around for 35 years. Yes, you can feel it coming... that's certainly something worth celebrating. This gothic-rock/post-punk once called itself Bauhaus 1919 as a reference to the architectural style of that period that also inspired the design of their band logo.
Their debut single ‘Bela Lugosi’s Dead’ from ’79 was an instant classic. Just like the singles that followed: ‘Dark Entries’ and the T-Rex derived ‘Telegram Sam’. Aside from infallible singles like ‘Passion Of Lovers’ and ‘She’s In Parties’, their reconstructed version of Bowie’s ‘Ziggy Stardust’ was the one to become their greatest hit.
Before splitting up in ’83, Bauhaus provided the world with four albums that are considered classics. MGMT even covered them recently and the fabulous Nine Inch Nails took them along on tour in ’06 too.
The band has had two reunions in the meantime (in ’98 and ’05) during which they dropped by the AB in ’06 and were brilliant live. In ’08 they recorded another album, thereby marking the beginning of the end of the band. This time enigmatic frontman Peter Murphy will be doing the honours and browsing 35 years of Bauhaus with a set full of classics!
