
Alexandre Desplat Best Film Composer of the year at the 14th World Soundtrack Awards
Best Original Film Score of the Year also goes to Alexandre Desplat’s music for 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'
The World Soundtrack Academy announced the winners of the 14th World Soundtrack Awards, the closing event of the 41st Film Fest Gent, on the evening of Saturday 25 October at Kuipke in Ghent.
This year’s Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film is ‘Happy’ from ‘Despicable Me 2’, written and performed by Pharrell Williams. Discovery of the Year 2014 is Daniel Pemberton for ‘Cuban Fury’ and ‘The Counselor’. Michelino Bisceglia’s music for ‘Marina’ won the Spotify Public Choice Award.
After the annual presentation of the prestigious film music prizes, Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by Dirk Brossé, played a striking selection from the extensive oeuvre of the guest of honour, Cliff Martinez. Jef Neve's music for the television series ‘In Flanders Fields’ was also given a well-deserved place in the concert, as was the music of Lifetime Achievement Award winner Francis Lai and Discovery of 2013 Dan Romer.
