Brussels Summer Festival has added an incredible thirteen new names to their bill. The sixteenth edition will be held from August 6 to 15 this year.

Goose knows how to melt melancholic pop with craxy electro that features both machines and electric guitars as main players. Never repeating but finding new approaches both live and in the studio. The same goes for Orbital, a groundbreaking band in the history of rave-culture from the hedonistic 90s, and today still exciting and fresh. Last year brothers Paul and Phil Hartnoll released the remarkable new CD What You Need and the British duo liked that so much they have announced a successor to be released later this year. Expect a sneak preview in Brussels!
Belgian bands able to finish their tour in a crowded Vorst Nationaal are rare and bands winning three of the most important awards at the D6bels Music Awards (the Walloon counterpart of the MAs) - a.o. artist ánd concert of the year. - are even rarer. Puggy have grown into a proper phenomenon in the past few years and will be able to emphasize this in the summer with a concert at the Paleizenplein. This will also be one of the last opportunities this year to see the trio perform live
Jain was chosen best artist of the year at the prestigious Victoires de la Musique earlier this year and will redeem the high expectations at Brussels Summer Festival. Innovative but full of emotion at the same time. This will also be her only concert in Belgium this summer. And there is more good stuff coming from the South: La Femme is currently counted as one of the best bands from French rock and on Le Mystère - her second highly praised album - she has succeeded in catching the energy of her live performance in the studio. High time for this band to get more attention above the language barrier.
Feist in the meantime can boast about a string of classics that are edged in our memory. The Canadian folkrock artist has been strikingly silent since the release of her last album Metals in 2011 but after her co-operation with Broken Social Scene Leslie Feist is ready to step back into the limelight again. A new release ánd an international tour are imminent. So an exclusive appearance at BSF makes sense.
Not really well-known in Flanders Trust are a living legend in the French rock-world, responsible for a handfull of strong LPs like Antisocial, Police Milice, Elite and Marche Ou Crève.
You can establish with your own ears that French hiphop is alive and kicking during the set of MHD.
And that's not all. In the electro department they are happy to welcome Henri PFR, a young dj and producer from Brussels, at 21 already dropping one killer track after another in the most prestigious clubs worldwide.
Something completely different - but as provocative - is Noa, the popular Israelian singer. She was reunited with her loyal guitarist and producer Gil Dor on her new CD Love Medicine. She brings a heart warming mix of jazz, traditional music and pure pop.
And talking about pure pop: in our own country Milow can hardly be beaten at that. He scores hit after hit, fills venues in all corners of Europe and brings Modern Heart, his most bold album yet. But still with the irresistible choruses we have come to expect from him.
The Belgian picture is completed by the raw garagerock of Black Box Revelation. At least for now because.....more new names will follow shortly!

Goose verstaat de kunst om melancholische pop te versmelten met knettergekke electro waar zowel machines als electrische gitaren een rol op het voorplan afdwingen. De band valt nooit in herhaling en blijft zowel live als op plaat koppig nieuwe invalshoeken verzinnen. Dat klopt ook voor Orbital, een baanbrekende band in de geschiedenis van de rave-cultuur uit de hedonistische jaren negentig, maar ook vandaag nog spannend en fris. Vorig jaar brachten de broers Paul en Phil Hartnoll met What You Need een opmerkelijke nieuwe cd uit en het Britse duo heeft de smaak inmiddels zodanig te pakken dat er later dit jaar al een opvolger verschijnt. Verwacht je alvast aan een sneak preview in Brussel!
Belgische bands die hun tournee kunnen afsluiten in een nokvol Vorst Nationaal blijven zeldzaam en groepen die op de D6bels Music Awards (zeg maar : de Waalse tegenhanger van de MIA’s) met drie van de belangrijkste prijzen aan de haal gaan - waaronder artiest én concert van het jaar - zijn zo mogelijk nog dunner gezaaid. Puggy is de laatste paar jaar dan ook uitgegroeid tot een echt fenomeen en dat zal volgende zomer nogmaals onderstreept worden met een concert op het Paleizenplein. Het wordt meteen één van de allerlaatste kansen om het trio nog live te zien dit jaar.
Jain werd eerder dit jaar verkozen tot artieste van het jaar tijdens de prestigieuze Victoires de la Musique en komt de hooggespannen verwachtingen nu inlossen op Brussels Summer Festival. Vernieuwend maar tegelijk toch boordevol emotie. Ook dit wordt het enige concert dat ze deze zomer in België zal afwerken. Er komt bovendien nog meer moois uit het zuiden: La Femme geldt momenteel als één van de beste groepen uit de Franse rock en op Le Mystère - de tweede plaat die unaniem met superlatieven werd overladen - is ze erin geslaagd om de energie van de optredens ook in de studio te vatten. Hoog tijd dat deze band boven de taalgrens wat meer weerklank krijgt.
Feist kan intussen al een hele reeks classics voorleggen die diep in ons geheugen staan gegrift. De Canadese folkrock-artieste hield zich opvallend stil sinds ze in 2011 haar laatste plaat Metals uitbracht maar na haar samenwerking met Broken Social Scene is Leslie Feist klaar om weer zelf in de schijnwerpers te staan. Er komt een nieuwe plaat uit én een internationale tournee. Logisch dus dat er ook een exclusieve passage op BSF in haar agenda staat.
In Vlaanderen is Trust niet écht een begrip maar in de Franstalige rock-wereld is het een levende legende die in de jaren tachtig bovendien verantwoordelijkwas voor een handvol ijzersterke elpees als Antisocial, Police Milice, Elite en Marche Ou Crève.
Dat ook de Franse hiphop in blakende gezondheid verkeert, kan je met eigen oren komen vaststellen tijdens de set van MHD.
En dat is nog niet alles. In de afdeling electro hebben ze het grote genoegen Henri PFR te mogen verwelkomen, een jonge dj en producer uit Brussel die op zijn eenentwintigste al in de meest prestigieuze clubs ter wereld heeft gedraaid en de ene killer track na de andere dropt.
Van een heel andere orde - maar niet minder prikkelend - is Noa, de populaire Israëlische zangeres die zich op haar nieuwste cd Love Medicine weer herenigd heeft met haar trouwe gitarist en producer Gil Dor. Op het menu een hartverwarmende mengeling van jazz, traditionele muziek en pure pop.
En over pure pop gesproken: in eigen land blijft Milow nauwelijks te kloppen op dat vlak. Hij scoort hit na hit, vult zalen in de verste uithoeken van Europa en heeft met Modern Heart zijn meest gedurfde plaat tot nog toe. Maar wél met de onweerstaanbare refreinen die we van hem gewend zijn natuurlijk.
De rauwe garagerock van Black Box Revelation maakt het Belgische plaatje compleet. Althans, voorlopig want… meer nieuwe namen volgen heel binnenkort!
