Today it is exactly 29 years since the Belgian Goth-fathers of the EBM (Electronic Body Music) released their fourth studio album Front By Front. An album that came only one year after Official Version (1987) and with which these gentlemen managed to refine the EBM recipe almost to perfection. Front 242 was clearly on the roll and Front By Front contained, just as its predecessor, a lot of dance floor fillers and also classic tracks, like Until Death (Us Do Part), Circling Overland, Im Rhythmus Bleiben, Welcome to Paradise. And of course maybe one of their most famous and successful singles / songs until this day, Headhunter. Front By Front is therefore considered one of the best Electro / Industrial albums ever made, not only by fans but also by critics around the world. Headhunter's remarkable video, filmed and directed by the well-known Dutch director / home photographer of Depeche Mode, U2 and Joy Division, Anton Corbijn, received heavy rotation on MTV and other music channels of that time. Due to the remarkable presence of eggs in this video clip, the song soon acquired the nickname 'Egg Hunter'. Despite these seemingly successful releases, Front 242’s home label and distribution partner Red Rhino Europe went bankrupt the same year and was taken over by PIAS (Play It again Sam). After the release of Front By Front, it would be a 3 year long wait for the fans until the follow-up album Tyranny> For was released. In 1992, the Front By Front album was remastered and was put in a new jacket for the re-release on the American major label Sony / Epic.
Vandaag is het precies 29 jaar geleden dat de Belgische Goth-fathers van de EBM (Electronic Body Music) hun vierde studio album Front By Front uitbrachten. Een album dat slechts één jaar na Official Version (1987) werd uitgebracht en waarop de heren het EBM-recept tot haast in de perfectie wisten te vervolmaken. Front 242 was duidelijk op dreef en Front By Front bleek, net zoals de voorganger Official Version, bomvol te staan met nummers die de dansvloer vullen en ondertussen uitgroeiden tot klassiekers, zoals onder meer Until Death (Us Do Part), Circling Overland, Im Rhythmus Bleiben, Welcome to Paradise en natuurlijk, misschien wel één van hun meest bekende en succesvolle singles / nummers tot op heden, Headhunter. Front By Front wordt daarom door vele fans, maar ook door critici over heel de wereld, beschouwd als één van de beste Electro/Industrial albums ooit gemaakt. De opmerkelijke videoclip van Headhunter, gedraaid door de bekende Nederlandse regisseur/huisfotograaf van onder meer Depeche Mode, U2 en Joy Division, Anton Corbijn was in die dagen niet weg te branden van MTV en andere muziekzenders. Door de opvallende aanwezigheid van eieren in deze videoclip kreeg het nummer al snel de bijnaam ‘Egg-hunter’. Ook al bleken de afgelopen releases zeer succesvol, toch ging Front 242’s label en distributiepartner Red Rhino Europe hetzelfde jaar op de fles en werd het overgenomen door PIAS (Play It Again Sam). Na de release van Front By Front zouden het voor de fans nog drie lange jaren wachten worden voor op de opvolger Tyranny>For verscheen. In 1992 werd het album geremastered en in een nieuw jasje gestoken voor de re-release op het grootse Sony/ Epic label.
