NEWS New album by Celluloide on Boredom

New album by Celluloide on Boredom

26th of November 2014, 17:24

Art Plastique is Celluloide’s fifth regular album (the album ‘Napthaline LP’ was a special release). The band keeps on evolving and following Hexagonal, their first album fully written in French, the trio has inoculated new ingredients to their electronic pop tunes.

For the first time in the band’s career, the mix has been performed by an external member of the group, musician and producer Laurent Cristofol, who had a previous experience with the band when he produced a remix for the Passion & Excitement limited edition. Thanks to his external vision and support, the sound spectrum was given greater care and the band focused more on Art Plastique’s overall feeling and eight songs. From le Baiser Géométrique’s (Geometrical Kiss) opening notes, we can hear Celluloide’s classic sound, but a more minimal line of work appears with immediate and emotional tracks such as Aussi vital que l’Eau (As vital as Water) or La Guerre de Cent Ans (Hundred Years’ War). The purposely shorter tracklist has given the band more time and freedom for each song and they have created more developed tracks like Asymétrie (Asymmetry) or the album’s first single, L’Amour est Clair (Love is Clear). Previously, Celluloide’s esthetical viewpoint was shown through their album covers inspired by early 20th century avant-garde and modernist paintings. With this album the artistic inspiration runs deeper and what could appear as a classic love song hides other meanings.

Ridley Scott Won't Be Directing The Sequel From Blade Runner

26th of November 2014, 17:19

Tucked into a long profile on Ridley Scott and his upcoming Exodus: Gods and Kings is confirmation of something we kind of suspected all along: Scott's not going to direct the Blade Runner sequel, although he will produce. We also now know more about how Harrison Ford's return will be done.

This has been coming for a while, since Scott's got a ton of projects on his plate. The next film is The Martian, which will finish filming later this winter. Scott told Variety that Blade Runner 2 will start filming within a year, which doesn't leave a lot of turn around time between finishing The Martian and starting the sequel. And Scott's listed as the executive producer/possible director of a ton of other projects.

Scott also gave some details about the plot of Blade Runner 2, which he's already developed with developed with the Blade Runnder's co-writer Hampton Fancher. It sounds like finding Deckard's going to be a major plot point:

It's sad that Scott won't be returning to the world of Blade Runner, but maybe a new vision is what is needed. But if not Scott, the question of who could step into his shoes is likely to be a big one.

Synopsis

Nekromantik is the one-of-a-kind shock classic from cult director Jörg Buttgereit, weaving the tale of Rob Schmadtke (Daktari Lorenz), a young man who finds himself competing for the affections of his girlfriend with a putrefying cadaver.

An employee of Joe’s Streetcleaning Agency, a company which cleans up after grisly accidents, Rob takes advantage of his profession to indulge in his chosen hobby – the collection of body parts. Then, one day, Rob brings home an entire decomposing corpse, much to the delight of girlfriend Betty. There follows a twisted love triangle, resulting in some of the most shocking scenes ever committed to celluloid.

Nearly 30 years after its original release, Arrow Video is proud to present this classic of underground horror cinema – finally classified for UK release in its fully unexpurgated form.

Mark Lanegan Band unveil video for 'Floor Of The Ocean'

26th of November 2014, 11:49

Following excellent, career-best reviews and a Top 20 chart entry for new album Phantom Radio last month, MARK LANEGAN BAND have just unveiled an atmospheric video to current single "Floor Of The Ocean". Watch it below...

Mark Lanegan Band will be touring the UK in January. Dates/info below:

Tuesday 20 January – GLASGOW - ABC
Wednesday 21 January – NEWCASTLE – Riverside
Thursday 22 January – LEEDS – Met University
Friday 23 January – MANCHESTER – Ritz
Monday 26 January – BIRMINGHAM – The Library
Tuesday 27 January – BRISTOL – O2 Academy
Wednesday 28 January – LONDON – Shepherd's Bush Empire
Thursday 29 January – PORTSMOUTH – Pyramids

Critical acclaim for Phantom Radio, out now on Flooded Soil / Heavenly Recordings.

"Mark Lanegan deserves elevation to the front rank of modern rock artists and Phantom Radio may be the album to finally force that shift in public percetion. Unlike most gothic pop, Lanegan's art is not a matter of fashion or mascara: it's a genuine cri du coeur, as rare and beautiful as anything in music"
The Independent – 5 Stars ***** (Album Of The Week)

"It's fantastic, these unfamiliar surroundings – be it the Moroderesque shimmer of Floor Of The Ocean or the imperial synths of Waltzing In Blue – lending Lanegan's songs a fresh new bite. A brave inspired step into the unknown."
MOJO – 4 Stars ****

"That ancient-sounding voice, seemingly hewn from rock's substrata, has always worked as a drone in its own right, and here it's matched by keyboards that shimmer behind, as if Lee Hazlewood were performing early-80s New Order."
Q – 4 Stars ****

"A beautiful set that balances Lanegan's ongoing love of blues and folk with further explorations of the electronic terrain he explored on 2012's Blues Funeral"
Uncut – 8/10

"Depite writing much of Phantom Radio on a phone app called Funk Box, Mark Lanegan boasts a melodic elegance more commonly associated with a classical orchestra… A graceful record that brings out the very best in the gruff veteran."
NME – 8/10

"A career highlight… The Superb 'Floor Of The Ocean' could be the Sisters Of Mercy covering Joy Division, while 'Torn Red Heart' might be the most beautiful love song Lanegan has ever recorded"
The Guardian – 4 Stars ****

"Lanegan carries his burdens with conviction and deceptive range. 'Floor Of The Ocean' is a synth-blues beauty, while the gorgeous post-punk hymnal 'Torn Red Heart', spotlights his timeless way with rueful songs of bruised fatalism."
The Independent On Sunday – 4 Stars ****

"Mark Lanegan focuses his latest album around his love of krautrock and British post-punk… Phantom Radio proves that there's not just mileage left in him still, but that he's going to lead us to many more places yet."
DIY – 4 Stars ****

"These songs are compelling, bleak, bruising and brilliantly realised… A compelling return."
The Sun – 4 Stars ****

"Phantom Radio builds on the electro leanings of 2012's Blues Funeral, taking us back to the gloomier bits of the 1980s, with the transitional Joy Division/New Order a reference point… Long-time fans will lap up Torn Red Heart, the prettiest thing he has created outside of his Isobel Campbell collaborations"
The Sunday Times (Album Of The Week)
