Klaus Sperber (January 24, 1944 – August 6, 1983), better known as Klaus Nomi, was a German countertenor noted for his wide vocal range and an unusual, otherworldly stage persona.
Nomi was known for his bizarrely visionary theatrical live performances, heavy make-up, unusual costumes, and a highly stylized signature hairdo which flaunted a receding hairline. His songs were equally unusual, ranging from synthesizer-laden interpretations of classical music opera to covers of 1960s pop standards like Chubby Checker's "The Twist" and Lou Christie's "Lightnin' Strikes". He is remembered in the US as one of David Bowie's backup singers for a 1979 performance on Saturday Night Live.
Nomi died in 1983 at the age of 39 as a result of complications from AIDS. [Wikipedia]
After several years of silence, Individual Totem returns with their sixth album, Kyria 13.
The album tells the story of the Croxxers, a secret cult of knights who live on Kyria 13 and whose civilization is in grave danger. Populations are suffering after The Great Mistake -- the grey world leaves a grey population in the throes of anger, and the short-lived hope of The Bluesky Project quickly dissolves. The Croxxers claim to have the answer and convince many, but they are wrong. Their arrogance opens the floodgates and the Mindworms plague the population like never before. Kyria 13 becomes a world of lost souls, forcing the Council of the Wise to act. They blunder through resolutions until all at once an answer emerges: they go to war. The history of Kyria 13 will never be the same.
Sparse, warm electronics, analogue synths, ambient pulses, and an industrial atmosphere complete the dark sci-fi Kyria 13 story and evoke the spectres of Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Severed Heads, and The Klinik.
The Industrial music legends Kevorkian Death Cycle have released a video for their new song Lightfield. The video takes a behind the scenes approach and gives fans some insight into KDC's recording process. Lightfield will be on Kevorkian Death Cycle's upcoming album "God Am I", which is the first release for the band in over twelve years. It will be released by Negative Gain Productions on September 17th.
Hidden Place are an Italian band who were on these pages once compared to the perfect marriage between Clan Of Xymox and Kirlian Camera and we still think that makes sense!
Anyway, judge for yourself as we proudly present the newest clip by them.
Summer Darkness, the dark alternative festival taking place in Utrecht, The Netherlands, opened its doors yesterday. The opening concert was given by Schwarzblut in the wonderful setting of the Leeuwenbergh Church. In the Helling venue, the atmosphere was very hot, with acts like Chrysalide, Diorama, Grendel, Xotox etc. We had the opportunity to meet Torben Wendt, of Diorama, for an exclusive video interview backstage.
