Sean Ragon has been active in the DIY punk, industrial and experimental music communities on the east coast for over 15 years while also running a record store and label in Brooklyn (Heaven Street and Blind Prophet Records, respectively). He has been recording under the moniker of Cult of Youth for the last seven years.
Ragon, once the project’s lone member, is now flanked by Jasper McGandy on bass and Christian Kount on electric guitar (both of whom were members of seminal Sacred Bones band The Hunt). Cory Flannigan on drums and Paige Flash on cello complete the five-piece. The end result is Cult of Youth as they were always meant to sound.
For their third full-length for Sacred Bones, Cult of Youth have delved deeper into their style of punk-influenced psychedelic neofolk and created a self-described “post-industrial Pet Sounds.” Using acoustic and electronic instruments, found sounds and an extensive tribal rhythm section, Cult of Youth have put it all out on the table and left us with their magnum opus.
The contributions of the new members are evident on every track on Final Days, from the anthemic “Empty Faction” to the gorgeous album closer “Roses.” Final Days is the culmination of everything Cult of Youth has been moving towards the past seven years — post-industrial, post-punk, and post-enlightenment.

SYNOPSIS

After releasing their spellbinding Eye of the Storm EP earlier this year, electro-pop duo Ivy & Gold now confirm news of their next EP, Smoke and Mirrors. Due for release on September 15th through 84 World, the collection of four tracks showcases their immaculate songwriting talent.
Comprised of Rachel Wilkinson and Jamie Davies, the two-piece are pleased to share the video for the forthcoming EP’s lead track ‘Smoke and Mirrors’. Filmed off the coast of Broadstairs, Kent and Broxbourne Woods, Hertfordshire, the video echoes the genuine heartfelt emotion of ‘Smoke and Mirrors’.
Inspired by soundtrack composers Tom Tyker (Cloud Atlas, Run Lola Run) and Hans Zimmer as well as Fleetwood Mac, Jeff Buckley, Tori Amos and tales of the supernatural, Ivy & Gold’s cinematic arrangements are complimented by sublime melodies and Rachel’s strong vocals.
With a nearly sold-out headline show at London’s St Pancras Old Church later this month, the duo are sure to enthrall even more to their charms.
Hardly any band made waves in the scene as quickly as Aranea Peel's North German all girl formation. Since Aranea performed as Satan with horns up to now, the new album's title “Glaube Liebe Hoffnung” could lead to the assumption she had been reformed. Of course, this is not the case. The title song already clarifies her preference for the sensual here and now over an unseizable hereafter. The minimal 80s retro song “Lust und Tod”, as well as the almost pop-rocky Song “Mensch und Tier” confirm this. Some, however, not all attributes of the total work of art “Grausame Töchter” can be described as trenchantly sarcastic or wryly derisive, evil, wild, brute, and self-depreciating. Grausame Töchter continue their individual and unique path. Their stylistic wide range sets them apart from the goth scene's monotony remarkably. The band calls their style dark electro punk, which is probably the most accurate description overall. Contrary to many other bands in the goth scene, they shine through their innovativeness. Additionally, front woman Aranea Peel is without equal. Optically, as well as vocally Aranea wows all along the line, she sings Brecht Chanson style (Verlassen), punkish-shrill (Ich bin Gott, bete und arbeite), melodic-pathetical (Tränen in einer toten Welt), erotically (Quid pro Quo), declamatorically (Solipsismus), rocky (Mensch und Tier) or just with understatement (Lust und Tod). Glaube Liebe Hoffnung is an individual album, without comparison and serves a lot more than simple entertainment.
Glaube Liebe Hoffnung is also released as a 1000 limited edition double cd in a folding digi pak. Moreover, the bonus cd comprises their most popular songs in extraordinary versions: acoustic instrumental with Ludwig Schytte on a Steinway piano. The atmosphere is calm, poetic, mysterious, sad, uncanny. Dissecting the music in this manner reveals the full potential of this all-female band's songs. They depict a surprising and atmospheric addition to the original electronic tracks. In this form, too, it surely constitutes the optimal soundtrack for any sm session.
