Three days ago, IAMX, the well-known alternative project of Chris Corner (formerly in Sneaker Pimps), launched a crowdfunding campaign via pledgemusic.com to raise money for their next album & DVD.
The response from the fans was insane: only ONE HOUR after the campaign was launched, the band hit 100% of the target. Today, on the third day after launch, they are approaching 300% with over 1000 pledgers!
This achievement is "mind-blowing" and proves the incredibly strong bond between the band and its fans. The campaign will be running for 163 more days, plenty of time for fans to pledge if they didn't do so yet.
No less than 40 items are on the menu to choose from, including CD's, DVD's, signed posters, shirts, etc. but the most amazing items are a bass, a guitar, stage outfits, an email exchange with Chris Corner, a dinner party (2000 EUR), a remix by Chris (3000 EUR) and a video by Chris (5000 EUR). A lot of items are now sold-out but the band will add more products in the next weeks.
In The Nursery are a neo-classical/martial electronica band, known for their cinematic sound. Based around twin brothers Klive and Nigel Humberstone, the band started out in Sheffield, England in 1981. Now you can complete your collection at bottom price and get a free badge to boot.

As the music industry grapples with the reality of the illegal proliferation of music and film content, that is in actuality the intellectual and fiscal property of its artist creators. As a musician who has come from the 'pre-internet age' and seeing the impact first hand on my own income source, which has been lessened. Whilst I am for the industry developing as many protective measures as possible to remind the public that illegal downloading is in fact virtual theft, I also understand the reflex to take something that appears to be 'free' via any and such rogue web sources. I personally trust that the free radical nature of the internet in this respect will evolve towards a more controlled culture where both the artist and fan will reach a middle ground as we see more and more artists offering many free content to audiences. From my 'artists' perspective, I'd say that I am concerned about a worst case scenario whereby the uncontrolled illegal free pilfering of art (the property of the Artist) will lead to the nigh on radical decline and dissuasion of budding artists to even begin to surface, as well as rendering present artists redundant and, ironically, being destroyed by the very same fans that enjoy the work. Fans might want to be careful about this syndrome. In essence, the WWW does offer fantastic new ways of sharing art, through ever budding new ways to continue that wonderful conversation between the artist and the audience.
