Apoptygma Berzerk to release double-vinyl albums on ARTOFFACT RECORDS

04th of February 2015, 17:28

Norwegian electronic-rock act Apoptygma Berzerk will release their latest live album, Imagine There's No Lennon, as a deluxe 2LP vinyl set via Toronto's Artoffact Records in March. Originally released as a CD+DVD European-only issue in 2010, "Lennon" is Apoptygma Berzerk's third live album and will be the band's first on vinyl.

The deluxe set includes a vinyl-sized booklet, complete with band and live photos from 2009's Rocket Science Tour. The vinyl will also be made available on two special colour versions.

Along with the "Lennon" 2LP, Artoffact Records will simultaneously release a 2LP vinyl version of the band's wildly popular Unicorn EP. Originally released on Harmonizer in 2002 as a duet with Propaganda's Claudia Brucken, Unicorn is one of Apoptygma Berzerk's standout songs, still ubiquitous in clubs, and a fan favourite at Apop shows. The collection contains eight remixes of Unicorn, including those by luminaries Hocico, T.O.Y., Freezepop, and No Comment, as well as a sublime 808 version by Stephen Groth's own Fairlight Children project. Several of Apop's best known hits will appear on the vinyl as bonus tracks in remixed or live form, including Non Stop Violence recorded in Tel Aviv, and remixes of Suffer in Silence, Until the end of the World, Kathy's Song and more.

Apoptygma Berzerk continues to be one of Norway's most popular electronic bands, with over 100,000 Facebook fans. Last year saw the band celebrate its 25th anniversary. The band was founded by Stephen Groth in 1989.

'Star Wars' Stand-alone Movie to Star Felicity Jones

04th of February 2015, 17:23

Director Gareth Edwards has found his leading lady for the forthcoming Star Wars stand-alone film. Variety reports that Felicity Jones, who received a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her role as Jane Hawking in The Theory of Everything, has entered final negotiations to star in the as-yet-untitled film.

Disney has been predictably tight-lipped about Edwards’ film, the first-ever Star Wars film to not be part of a trilogy. Rumors have persisted that the movie may focus on Boba Fett and/or Han Solo, with a plot based on stealing the plans to the first Death Star (i.e., the very event that led to the famous, “Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi” line, and essentially the entire path of the original films). Breaking Bad actor Aaron Paul has been mentioned as a possibility for the leading male role.

One thing we do know for sure: Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli) wrote an initial draft of the script, which was then handed off to Chris Weitz (About a Boy, The Golden Compass) for rewrites. A separate stand-alone movie from director Josh Trank (Chronicle, The Fantastic Four) is also in the works.

Eaves announces his debut album 'What Green Feels Like' out 27th April on Heavenly Recordings

04th of February 2015, 17:19

Eaves has announced details of the release of his hauntingly beautiful debut album, What Green Feels Like, which is released on Heavenly Recordings on Monday April 27th 2015.

The 9-track album, recorded in the autumn of 2014 at Voltaire Studios, London with acclaimed producer Cam Blackwood, is as follows:

1. Pylons

2. Dove In Your Mouth

3. Spin

4. As Old As The Grave

5. Timber

6. Hom-A-Gum

7. Alone In My Mind

8. Purge

9. Creature Carousel

Still in his early 20s and based in Leeds, having grown up on the other side of the Pennines, Eaves released his debut As Old As The Grave EP, to much acclaim in November of last year.

Beautifully wistful, emotionally powerful and lyrically astute Eaves’ debut album is tinged with a world-weary wisdom that belies his age. His delicate and haunting songs have an ageless quality which touch on his upbringing, dreams and death, and especially the desire to get from where he was to where he wants to be.

“My songs are very emotional and change dramatically. To perform them, I have to be in the zone. I remember where I was when I wrote them and why I wrote them,” explains Joe. “ I have to perform them in the way they were written; otherwise I’m letting myself and the audience down.”

Having previously toured alongside Nick Mulvey Boy & Bear and Slow Club, and currently on a European run of shows with Philip Selway, Eaves has announced his own headline tour following the release of the album.

This Is The Kit announce new album 'Bashed Out'

04th of February 2015, 17:17

This Is The Kit is the beloved musical project of one Kate Stables, born in Winchester, England and now at home in Paris, France, her third album Bashed Out will be released on April 6th via Brassland.

Having won over Elbow frontman Guy Garvey – who argued her last record should have been Mercury Prize nominated – as well as his fellow BBC 6Music & Radio 1 DJs (Lauren Laverne, Marc Riley, Cerys Matthews, Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart), This Is The Kit has also been hand-picked to support the likes of Sharon Van Etten, Iron & Wine, Jose Gonzales and Alexi Murdoch – a who's who of iconic folk-inflected songwriters.

Bashed Out is produced by another supporter, The National's Aaron Dessner (co-founder of Brassland), and features performances from Aaron, his brother Bryce Dessner, Benjamin Lanz (Beirut), Thomas Bartlett (Doveman, The Gloaming) and Matt Barrick (The Walkmen) alongside her regular cast of collaborators.

The resulting record is honest, human and humane.

Growing up in a green leafy English town, multi-instrumentalist Kate learned from an early age that great art takes time. “The place I grew up is defined as a Roman Saxon medieval city, they started building the Winchester Cathedral a thousand years ago and have been working on it ever since” she explains.

This Is The Kit have been in existence since the 00s, moving to Bristol to continue her musical education, before upping sticks and leaving for Paris. It was here where her debut album Krulle Bol took shape, recorded and produced by PJ Harvey's long-standing musical collaborator John Parish. Her second album, 2010's Wriggle Out The Restless was made in France alongside members of Francois and the Atlas Mountains before final touches from TITK's extended musical family were added in Bristol, Belgium and several points in between.

The continuing expansion of TITK's musical family is where the story of Bashed Out starts — beginning with a pair of intersections with the story of now legendary New York band The National. Kate's eldest sister Jane Stables was an early fan and friend to the band – providing couches and floors for them on their first UK tour in 2002. That friendship is why in 2011, The National ended up at a small Hackney cafe watching This Is The Kit. Struck by what he'd heard, Aaron offered to reissue Wriggle Out The Restless (which had fallen victim to two labels going out of business) and support slots at New York City's Beacon Theatre and London's Alexandra Palace.

A demo exchange followed across the Atlantic and in early 2014, Kate flew to Brooklyn to flesh out her ideas into full recordings. Her past experience allowed her to quickly plug into an entirely new musical community and Based Out was swiftly completed.

"The main reason for doing what I do is the exchange with other people—musical exchange yes, and other exchanges too. A hello and a handshake and the constant opportunity to learn from the knowledge and experience of others. As far as I can work out, the only thing worth doing in life is meeting, helping and swapping stories and experiences and resources with other people. Doing, making, learning."

To some, Bashed Outmight mean broken. For This is the Kit, though, it is a statement of intent, how art happens, through happenstance meetings and accidental collisions and pushing through.

TITK are known for their shapeshifting line up, which can over the course of a few gigs, transform from a duo to a psychdelia-tinged electric five piece. Kate's long-term collaborator Rozi Plain is usually the one constant at live shows and the full band will head out on a UK tour next month.
