L.I.E.S. boss Ron Morelli announces 'A Gathering Together'

12th of August 2015, 19:06

A Gathering Together is Ron Morelli’s second full-length for Hospital Productions: a 'techno' cacophony brought to its granular detail and reduced to its most elemental tonal depths. A cohesive fusion of surreal and feverish deja vu loops, brittle noise, fucked rhythms, scrap metal percussions, pro-one metal synths, and an injection of near-buried, Drano vocal samples, it’s a fearsome celebration of brokenness, of amplified surroundings.

Stereo-shifting drones and driving rhythms that tell the stories of those now gone, more a soundtrack for a wake than 4/4 crafted for the dancefloor. There’s a naked anxiety at work that doesn't turn away from loss, but runs with an excited melancholy that looks to a future that won’t exist. The boldness of the gestures are not to be confused with exuberance.

With this effort Morelli has shown remarkable restraint and patience most notably highlighted on title track 'A Gathering Together.' An intense cut born from rapid-paced dead-end urban environments that force people together. It's a calling to do more, include more, and celebrate the many forms within those inconspicuous places.

Upon numerous listens, it's clear the sound design is a reflection of heavy compositional themes that suggest a greater whole. This is hard, dirty techno--humid, reduced, bare bones, yet dense and dissolved to its electronic soil.

Heavy without being oppressive, it is the culmination of many elements pulled from all spheres of modern electronics, eaten, digested, and spit back out. Produced at the end of 2014, with final mixdown and additional production in spring 2015 by Krikor Kouchian and Ron Morelli in Paris, Hospital Productions is proud to offer A Gathering Together.

About Ron Morelli:

Quietly kicking around the New York City underground since the late-nineties, Ron Morelli started the L.I.E.S. label in 2010 as an outlet to release the music of a tight knit group of friends who were making tracks around the city. What started as a small project to release his own music and those of local producers, the label slowly evolved as more people came out of the woodwork with their contributions.

As time has progressed, the label continues on to be a highly respected institution and consistent mainstay in the weird world of off center electronic music. Releases have come from the likes of artists as diverse as techno pioneer Adam-X, Dutch synth master Legowelt, Black Dice's Eric Copeland, upstart house producer Delroy Edwards, and Miami native Greg Beato all appeared on L.I.E.S. expansive roster.

2013 and 2014 saw Morelli step a bit further into the production realm, releasing two albums and one 12 inch for New York City's Hospital Productions imprint run by Dominick Fernow. He continues to work closely with Hospital with regards to his production and DJ's on a weekly basis around the globe.

The Twin Peaks-soap continues....

12th of August 2015, 18:57

Twin Peaks' road to revival has not been without its obstacles. In the year since Showtime announced that the cult drama was coming back after a two-decade hiatus, co-creator David Lynch briefly pulled out due to a contract dispute, and fellow co-creator Mark Frost hinted that the limited series wouldn't be ready until 2017.

Fans may not have to wait that long, after all. Speaking at Thursday's Television Critics Association summer press tour, Showtime president David Nevins confirmed that production would get underway in just a matter of weeks. "Shooting starts in September, thankfully," he said.

There is still no confirmed news about cast additions on top of original lead Kyle MacLachlan, but Nevins said that there would soon be announcements about other favorites who would be returning to the series.

As far as timing goes, Nevins noted that it's still too soon to tell if the series indeed will be ready for 2016 and not 2017, as Frost has implied. "I want it as badly as some of the biggest fans in the world want it, so I'm hoping we make 2016," said Nevins. "It's not clear. It's ultimately going to be in their control. They're going to shoot the whole thing, and then they'll be in post [production]."

Lynch, as of now, indeed is directing every episode and is approaching it as one long movie. No exact episode count was given — Nevins described it as "open-ended" — but it will be more than the original nine episodes planned at the time of last October's order. Conflict over the number of episodes, it turns out, was the reason that Lynch publicly distanced himself from the project.

"I never had any doubts we were going to get him back.... This was a huge priority project for me," admitted Nevins. "It became clear that it was going to take more than [the] nine episodes that we originally planned for and budgeted for. We had to work out the details. I really wanted David to direct the whole thing. It's looking in great shape."

When pushed on who has made deals to return — rumored castmembers include Sherilyn Fenn and Michael Ontkean — Nevins said that not everything had been finalized but that the characters viewers expect to see on the show will make an appearance.

Nevins wrapped up Twin Peaks talk by saying that he had read all of the scripts, but he is letting the creators steer the ship themselves. "I would call them conversations, not notes," he said. "Ultimately, [Lynch] has creative control. He deserves it."

Lust announce their debut album 'Illuminations' on 1965 records

12th of August 2015, 17:16

‘Waves’ will be available via digital download from 28/8/15. It will also receive a limited 7” vinyl release of only 500 copies.

Produced by MJ from Hookworms in his Leeds studio, it combines distorted organs and synths with fuzz guitars and a driving chorus of ‘uplifting misery’.

‘Waves’ follows the bands first two singles, ‘Mouthwash’ and ‘Temptation’ which DIY dubbed a “glistening, new wave-nodding exciting debut” and XFM and Radio 1 dutifully delivered support by spinning on several occasions and with 6Music crowning the single the winner of their rebel playlist.

Lusts are brothers Andy and James Stone from Leicester evoking both the classic woozy chorus’ and reverb laden guitars of Echo and the Bunnymen and the new wave pop sensibilities of Beach Fossils.

The brothers explain the creative process behind the making of the video to Waves:

“From the start, the intention for the Waves video was to explore imagery beyond the obvious route of water, and instead focus on the lyrics and the meaning of the song.

We sat down with the directors Youth Hymns and discussed our different ideas for visually representing this.

We were inspired by Virginia Woolf’s ‘The Waves’, the visuals of oscilloscopes, and the idea of constant movement, of a force beyond your control pulling you towards something. then came their idea of the tunnel, an almost b-movie vibe, and a character falling down with us. The video has a kind of gothic, hypnotic feel, which pays homage to the aesthetics of cult sci-fi and horror. With added Jazzmasters.”

Following successful appearances across the summer at various festivals including Secret Garden Party, Lusts continue to build their live presence with further UK/EU dates across September and a full UK headline tour in November:
