Factory Benelux presents an expanded double disc edition of LC, the second studio set by cult Manchester ensemble The Durutti Column, originally issued in 1981 and ranked among Vini Reilly’s finest albums.
After recording debut album The Return of the Durutti Column with producer Martin Hannett in 1979, virtuoso guitarist Vini Reilly purchased a TEAC four-track recorder from Bill Nelson and set about producing his own material. These evocative, highly atmospheric demos were perfected by Reilly at Graveyard Studios with co-producer Stuart Pickering, with additional drums and percussion from Bruce Mitchell, who has partnered Reilly ever since. Originally released by Factory Records in November 1981, LC is a key album in a body of work described by David Stubbs of Uncut magazine as ‘unique in rock, with Reilly’s scampering, watercolour guitar style building a tentative bridge between post-punk and the chamber sketches of Debussy and Ravel.’
On this expanded Factory Benelux the original ten tracks are supplemented by no less than 23 bonus cuts, including rare Sordide Sentimental single Danny/Enigma, 12” EP Deux Triangles, and the three tracks Reilly contributed to A Factory Quartet in 1980, his last recordings with Hannett and featuring Donald Johnson of A Certain Ratio on drums. The remastered double disc set also includes a clutch of scare Crépuscule compilation album tracks, and demo versions of LC tracks, including a full length version of Detail for Paul
February 26, 2013 sees the release of KUNST, the latest offering from KMFDM, the purveyors of The Ultra Heavy Beat. “KUNST” is German for “ART”, fitting for a band that has spent three decades conceptualizing its own brand of art war against the establishment. KUNST is bombastic musical graffiti, showing the band making another indelible mark on the walls of society.
Sascha, Lucia, Jules, Andy & Steve kick things off with the snarky title track, instant payoff for long-term fans and newbies alike, then delve into freakadelic mayhem, seamlessly blending their anarchic signature sound / themes with elements of punk, industrial and EBM. KUNST is the passageway into the very abyss, the unknown depth of a staple we took for granted over the years, commonly known as KMFDM. Relentlessly pouncing headlong into tracks named "AVE MARIA", "QUAKE", and, as a show of solidarity for the jailed Russian punk band, "PUSSY RIOT", KMFDM expose the underbelly of societies' shortcomings, tracks such as "HELLO", "PSEUDOCIDE", "ANIMAL OUT" and "I <3 NOT" show that entering into its 30th year, KMFDM is definitely "doin’ it again", but catching us off-guard this time around!
Contributions by Swedish cult band MORLOCKS and LEGION WITHIN's William Wilson add further fuel to this fury, THE MESS YOU MADE and NEXT BIG THING are rock-solid statements against the eroding forces that leave no rock unturned in the effort of undermining our societies, yet stalwartly we stand united, counting down the days until February 26, 2013!
It finally happened, the cultmovie that no one understands but everyone adores (Eraserhead that is!) is for the very first time available on Blu-ray in the Benelux (there's also a regular dvd-release).
The movie is completely restored and digitally remastered by the man himself.
The Blu-ray is available in all good movieshops in the Benelux or it can be ordered at Filmfreaks, the Dutch based label that has a sharp eye for everything that's cult and more....
Well, we guess you know, but if not...the king of the wild frontier (that's Mr. Adam Ant for you) is coming to Antwerp on 7th December at the Zappa in Antwerp.
Tickets are still available, so unplug the jukebox....
Neil Halstead releases his new single 'Tied To You' today (November 19).
It couples the gloriously autumnal folk of the original with the almost trip-hop remix by electronica producer Mark Van Hoen. You might have heard the latter on BBC 6 Music or Amazing Radio.
'Tied To You' is the first the first single to be taken from the former Slowdive and Mojave 3 man's acclaimed new solo album 'Palindrome Hunches'. Here are some of the nice things people have been saying about it:
Neil is currently on tour in the UK and plays the following dates this week:
