Hailing from San Francisco, multi-instrumentalist and composer Jason Rubenstein has put out his sixth studio release on May 30th. An album called New Metal From Old Boxes brings twelve compositions of instrumental, heavily influenced soundtrack progressive metal that captures the composer’s craftsmanship and maturity.

Described as Rubenstein’s return to his progressive rock roots, New Metal From Old Boxes embraces both old and futuristic, with a steady note of the real world. Written, performed and produced by Rubenstein, and mixed by Grammy Award-winning producer and engineer Niko Bolas (Neil Young), New Metal From Old Boxes features classic, loud rock production and a movie-like tension-filled soundtrack vibe.

“Imagine if King Crimson, ELP, NIN, Wendy Carlos and Philip Glass got together to score the soundtrack for a heist movie,” Rubenstein says about the album.

Jason Rubenstein’s music has been heard on NPR, NBC Television and Soma.fm. He contributed score for the film Replicant, directed by Ringo Lam and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Michael Rooker. His sound design was used in a popular ABC’s TV series Lost. In 2000, Rubenstein was featured in an EQ magazine article titled Adventures in Sound Design.

This July, London will see the first collaboration between legendary author and punk aficionado Jon Savage (England’s Dreaming) and photography collective Rockarchive.

Under Jon’s guidance, Rockarchive have pulled together some of the world’s best punk images from both sides of the pond. The exhibition features photographers such as Sheila Rock, Roberta Bayley, Richard Mann, Adrian Boot, Bob Gruen, Ray Stevenson and Jill Furmanovsky together for the first time.

The rich visual material with many never-before-seen photographs from the brief but incendiary punk era has resulted in one of the most exciting exhibition’s Rockarchive have ever produced, ‘I Got You In My Camera – Punk 1976-1979’ promises to be a must see for all punk fans and collectors.

Through founder, award-winning photographer, Jill Furmanovsky, Rockarchive has a long relationship with Olympus Cameras. The brand launched their first digital consumer camera at her groundbreaking exhibition, ‘Oasis, Was There Then’ exhibition at the Roundhouse in London in 1997, on the cusp of the digital revolution. Their year- long creative collaboration will continue till the end of the 2014.

Starting life as a one-man bedroom project for band leader Joseph Walsh, Dignan Porch has now blossomed in to a ramshackle group of perpetually laid-back sounding humans creating music that straddles the lines between psychedelia, folk, indie pop and grunge. Attracting a large cult following with every release, the band have been on headline tours of the UK, Europe, and US, which saw them driving over 9000 miles around the country with no tour manager or budget, and sleeping on floors every night.

When the Porch kick out the jams they give the impression that they're careering along with only a couple of wheels still on the road, just about in control, but always on the verge of tipping over. There is a sadness that lurks beneath many of these rough-around-the-edges pop songs, a blurry-eyed realisation of the boredom of everyday life that seems to creep in to the very fabric of Dignan Porch's sound. The ash tray is full, the can is empty.

The majority of Observatory was written and recorded at home during 2013 when Joe was living in a flat above a used-carpet shop in South London. It was cold and noisy but the rent was low, there were no neighbours to disturb and his room was huge. The perfect setting. The best of times / the worst of times. The band spent evenings and weekends getting their parts down and piecing the songs together. This DIY approach to recording works perfectly for Dignan Porch though, mid-fi fits them well.

Dignan Porch are Joseph Walsh (Guitar & vocals) Sam Walsh (Lead guitar), Ben Goodwin (Bass) and Hayley Akins (Keyboard and vocals). The band use a revolving roster of drummers, currently drumming in the live band is Philippa Bloomfield, before her Luke Walsh (also of Old Forest) who plays on Observatory, James Smith (also of Prize Pets) and Stephen Keane (also of Slushy Guts). Henry Withers of Human Hair/Lovvers also plays lead guitar on ‘Wait & Wait & Wait'.
