A birthday party with Leather Strip

08th of November 2013, 16:44

Dark Entries is celebrating its 50th release with Leæther Strip “Teenage Demos”. Leæther Strip is the solo-project of Danish electronic industrial artist Claus Larsen. Discovered by the German techno artist and producer Talla 2XLC, Leaether Strip quickly built a buzz as one of the most exciting emerging acts in Europe in the early 90′s.

“Teenage Demos” is a collection of Claus Larsen’s earliest recordings. Nine demo songs recorded between 1982 and 1986 never before released on vinyl. Influenced by Fad Gadget, Depeche Mode and Jean Michel Jarre, Claus began creating synth-pop melodies at age 14. Though the melodies were catchy and upbeat they had a hidden melancholy because Claus knew that he was different than others. “Dreaming” was his first attempt to “come out” to himself as a queer kid. Lyrically the songs reflected what was going on in his head: youth, hope and dreams. Claus used a simple set up: Moog Prodigy, Yamaha drum machine, delay pedal and spring reverb. He would record the bass and drums on a double cassette recorder, without midi, sequencers or preset sounds. By 1985, Claus composed instrumental songs as the final three tracks on this album illustrate.

Each song has been carefully remastered from the original masters for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The vinyl comes housed in a glossy jacket with original photograph of a 15-year old Claus as well as an insert with lyrics, photos and an interview. “Teenage Demos” is a sneak peak into the world of early, emotionally intense foundations of Leæther Strip

SNOWBIRD to release the album 'moon' in early 2014

SNOWBIRD (Stephanie Dosen and Simon Raymonde) to release the album 'moon' in early 2014

Born from love, musical empathy, a baby grand piano discovered on Gumtree and an expired visa, Snowbird duo Stephanie Dosen and Simon Raymonde have crafted an album of exquisite melody and mood that radiates the uncanny mystery of the object it's named after: moon.

Released early next year on Bella Union, the label that Raymonde has curated and run since his former band Cocteau Twins went their individual ways in 1997, moon comprises 11 songs composed between two
continents; Raymonde was in London while Dosen was in North Carolina after being based in the capital following her 2007 debut A Lily For The Spectre. Snowbird's album was subsequently crafted via the wonder
of technology, and yet moon has one unifying and intimate sound and vision, from gently pulsating, pop-centric trails to lingering,

Welcome to the strange and beautiful world of la YnE

07th of November 2013, 17:48

Peek-A-Boo loves unusual voices and what better can we do than let them tell their own story....so here's the strange and beautiful world of la YnE

My name is Matti Laine from Finland and I'm writing to let you know a little bit about my band la YnE.
I'd love for you to listen to the recordings I have on my Soundcloud. If you need any more information about the band or album, please get in touch!

...

Welcome to the strange and beautiful world of la YnE (Matti Laine). This debuth album is my story, the story of my personal journey...we are living a daily life of unknowns and unexpected surprises...Turkey burns with riots, Eurozone crisis, global warming...we live in a great world and it sometimes does not seem that way but I believe life is what you wish it to be. In a way it is an illusion because our minds are the ones who choose how we should perceive and then lead us through madness to the magic of here and now...

In my opinion, this music opened new avenues for creative use of world music combined with modern day technology, music where the synthetic and organic magnificently blend together. The songs are present myriad elements from around the world in the same jumbled stew, without regard for age, race, color, creed or religion or sex. I have recorded many samples from around the world - sounds of radio, Jordan street singers, preachers of Vatican, Muslim chanting, Egyptian voice, ambience of Mexico and among others. Finally, my debut album of "La grande illusion" is celebration of life...influenced by travels and adventures had with my friends and family. So, as you can see, each song comes from a different place, and represents a little chapter of my life.

Arrow Video releases second season by Van Vleeteren

07th of November 2013, 17:44

Following the massive success of their Bafta winning series The Killing and Borgen, and the newly Bafta nominated series’ The Bridge, Arrow Film’s Nordic Noir label are pleased to announce the release of Van Veeteren Season 2. Following the success of their Wallander Original Films box set last year, Arrow Films are pleased to announce the return of Scandinavian detective to the hordes of UK based Nordic Noir lovers... Van Veeteren is back!

One of the most suspenseful psychological thrillers ever to come out of Sweden, the Van Veeteren series brings to life the best-selling crime novels by one of Sweden’s most popular mystery writers, Håkan Nesser, whose books have been translated into more than ten languages

Set in the fictitious city of Maardam, in a made-up country that could be anywhere in northern Europe, the series follows the murder cases of retired chief inspector, Van Veeteren, and his two crime squad protégés, Münster and Moreno.

The series starts with Van Veeteren going into retirement. He has bought an antiquarian bookshop where he plans to live out his remaining years devoting himself to his other great passion, books, and trying to spend more time with his family – especially his estranged son Erich, whose history of crime and drug abuse are at least in part a result of Van Veeteren’s deep commitment to his work.

His retirement, however, is in name only, as Münster and Moreno continue to consult the master detective, who helps them with new perspectives in their investigations and invariable ends up getting actively involved himself. And one senses he would not have it any other way.

Debutalbum by Perverted By Language soon out

05th of November 2013, 21:37

They're named Perverted By Language and in a way they're Belgian as some members are not Belgian, but that's another story....

What really matters is that they're good. Say a mixture between Joy Division and The Chameleons. Nah, not that legendary but somewhere that good. And yes, everyone who saw them agrees on that.

But okay, they're not the first band who have a Factory-sound and let's hope they're not the last but point is that their debut album soon will be out.

We will celebrate that. Be sure of that! But before all that you can listen yourself to their tunes. Just click here and discover the songs Ian Curtis has never written.

IAMX feels quite delicate to me. It needs understanding and effort to really see the bigger picture. The live show can do that, it can convince people, but from my internal feeling, it can be uncomfortable.

I am often a little frustrated by the complexity of my music, which in turn motivates me to keep composing, hoping that one day I will write a simple song.
