Psychedelic rock with Wolf People

30th of January 2013, 22:08

Jagjaguwar will release the second full-length studio album by England's Wolf People, Fain, on April 30th (29th in the UK).

Recorded in a beautiful and isolated house in the Yorkshire Dales, Fain is the sound of a band at the peak of their creative powers. It’s an honest and natural album that allows its stories, its melodies, its themes and structures to breathe. The album draws on more traditional English and Scottish folk melodies than anything they’ve done before, but not straying from the drop-out fuzz-rock route they’ve made their own. The influences are vast – British rock bands like Groundhogs, Dark, Mighty Baby and Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac are evident in the swirling and distorted guitars throughout Fain, along with the 60s revival folk of Fairport Convention, Nic Jones, and Trees. Additionally they have looked towards Scandinavian’s rich psychedelic tradition both new and old – you can hear the likes of Mecki Mark Men, Mikael Ramel and contemporaries Dungen. You can even hear the band’s teenage forays into Hip-Hop in the drums of ‘Thief’ and ‘Athol’.

It rained constantly throughout the recording process, and the house was so packed with gear and recording equipment that the band was forced to sleep in tents and caravans parked outside. Whilst performing, they could look out into the vast countryside and catch sight of buzzards, hares, curlews and hundreds upon hundreds of crows and gulls. The fire was on permanently, overnight and throughout the day. A serene experience that informs every track on the album. It was mixed and finished in the equally rainy London, with additional performances from Olivia Chaney on piano and backing vocals, plus Nic Kearey and Rachel Davies of Stick in the Wheel and Various (XL). Jace Lasek (The Besnard Lakes) recorded backing vocals in Vancouver remotely for "All Returns."

SAVAGE REPUBLIC are visiting Europe again in feb. 2013

30th of January 2013, 19:49

SAVAGE REPUBLIC are visiting Europe again in feb. 2013. Their “European trek” will lead them to Tournai on feb.15th along with SOLAR SKELETONS and ZHOD.

Rising from the Los Angeles underground of the 1980s, Savage Republic forged an astonishing reputation by virtue of five mesmerizing studio albums and a string of legendary live performances. Forever shifting, their brand of ritualistically tribal exhibitions blurred the boundaries of postpunk, industrial and soundtrack music, incorporating minimalist bass rumbles, exotic metal percussion, primal chants, middle eastern melodies and even shards of surf guitar. Add to this iconic letterpress graphics by founder member Bruce Licher, and Savage Republic stack up as one of the most exciting and potent experimental groups to emerge at any time or place during the last three decades.

This new tour is following the recent « Varkarios » album recorded in Greece in February 2012 during the riot days.

The line-up will be the same as it has been since 2009: the guitarist/bassist Kerry Dowling and the drummer Alan Waddington along with the two main protagonists Thom Fuhrmann and Ethan Port.

Expect a very long set which will cover all their albums…

Featuring Blaine L Reininger/Tuxedomoon for the Tournai date exclusively.

Phoenix by The Juggernauts out now!

30th of January 2013, 19:24

The Juggernauts is the new project of BORG (aka Peter Mastbooms, who is, among other things, a member of the live line up of The Klinik) and is mixed & co-produced by Glenn Keteleer. A name like The Juggernauts invokes images of power, of a massive force of bass and beats, of ground-shattering Electro-sounds.

And it is needless to say that the debut EP “Phoenix” sees one of the most anticipated newcomers to the classic EBM-sound deliver the goods in spades! The Belgian band fuses the minimal, rhythm and bass driven structures of Electronic Body Music with a more aggressive and modern approach, to overwhelming results.

The EP’s killer title track (which is taken from the upcoming debut album “The Juggernauts Are Coming”) is a relentless floor filler with addictive qualities and the two EP-exclusive tracks “Damaged Illusions” and “Infected” are thudding beat-monsters that effectively evolve the classic sound into the 21st century.

“Phoenix” is rounded off by some excellent remixes from friends and supporters Spetsnaz, The Plastic Noise Experience, Implant and True Zebra.

“Phoenix” is limited to 666 copies in a hand-numbered Digipak. The Juggernauts – it’s not just a name! This IS EBM!

Track listing:
1. Phoenix
2. Damaged Illusions
3. Infected
4. Phoenix (Melted)
5. Damaged Illusions (Again)
6. Infected (Boiled)
7. Damaged Illusions (And Again)

Alk-a-line's new album will include lyrics by Jean-Luc De Meyer and Jacques Perry-Salkow

29th of January 2013, 23:58

The upcoming album of Alk-a-line, the female duo from Brussels composed of Toxic Witch aka Sandra Hagenaar (Fifty Foot Combo, Kris Dane…) and Sonic Witch aka Laurence Castelain (Flesh and Fell, The Chicks…), will be a very special release. Peek-a-boo had the exclusive opportunity to listen to excerpts from most of the songs and the whole sounds.... great! This 10-track album will play with musical references from the 80ies, electro and postpunk but will also play a lot with words!

The trance song "This is not a fairy Tale" will include clever lyrics by Jean-Luc De Meyer (Front 242, Modern Cubism, 32Crash) and two other songs, "Train-Train" and "Le Coeur à l'écrou" will feature amazing lyrics by Jacques Perry-Salkow, the French master of tautograms and anagrams.

We also heard songs that are true dancefloor killers ("Dark Energy", "Ich weiss"). We are really looking forward to hearing all the tracks when the album is released in April by Lynch Law Records!

Funny: all the track timings form palindromes, which means that they can be read from left to right and from right to left (eg 2:52, 3:33, 3:03, etc.).

Tracklist:

Neue Deutsche Welle with Lisawars

29th of January 2013, 19:55

saxon band LisaWars finally return after almost 3 years, in which they only released the singles "Wo warst du?" and "Die Angst in deinen Augen", with their new longplayer "Nichts". Started in the year 2002, Jens (Keys, Synths) and Micha (Guitar, Vocals) play their very own vision of gloomy music.

Far off of blinkers LisaWars mixes a cocktail consisting of New Wave, Goth and Punk. Bizarre german lyrics, that partly remind at classics such as Grauzone or Die Art, a minimalistic instrumentation in style of the early Neuen Deutschen Welle (NDW - German New Wave) and a deep glance into the depths of human civilisation emboss the songs of the band. These become a ray of hope on the german New Wave sky with a good pinch of Synths, floating guitar lines and memorable hooks.

IAMX
IAMX feels quite delicate to me. It needs understanding and effort to really see the bigger picture. The live show can do that, it can convince people, but from my internal feeling, it can be uncomfortable.

I am often a little frustrated by the complexity of my music, which in turn motivates me to keep composing, hoping that one day I will write a simple song.
