Het scenario is gebaseerd op de ware geschiedenis rond de verdwijning van erfgename Agnès Le Roux, een zaak die Frankrijk tot de dag van vandaag bezighoudt. De film ging tijdens het Festival de Cannes in première in de officiële selectie "hors compétition".
Nice, 1976. Renée Le Roux staat aan het roer van een van de succesvolste casino’s aan de Franse Riviera, een familiebedrijf waar ook haar dochter Agnès aandelen in heeft. Agnès, net terug in Frankrijk na een mislukt huwelijk, zou haar aandelen het liefst verzilveren maar Renée wil daar niets van weten. In de strijd tegen Fratoni, de malafide eigenaar van een concurrerend casino, en enkele kritische aandeelhouders heeft zij haar dochter aan haar kant nodig.
