The five members of Cheena – Walker Behl, Margaret Chardiet, Keegan Dakkar, Logan Montana, and Eugene Terry--were all born and raised in New York City and have all cut their teeth in its musical underground. The band formed in 2014 out of their shared affinity for ’77 punk and a mutual respect for Mercer Arts-era NYC early glam and West Coast country punk. They were all friends playing the underground punk circuit, each with the desire to form a band outside of their own genre niches.
Appropriately, then, Cheena finds all five of its members stretching out of their usual comfort zones. Behl’s historically shrieking vocals are replaced with a more harmonious call, Chardiet trades the P.E. table for a fire engine Gretcsh Special Jet / Fender twin combo. Montana taught himself to play slide guitar, Jeffrey Lee style. Dakkar tries out a thundering post-punk bass and Terry, a multi-instrumentalist, settles on drums, forcing himself to play at least two measures slower than any of his previous projects. Spectacularly, the result is a sonically coherent group who sound as though they’ve been playing together for years.
Citing wildly diverse influences-- Gary Glitter, Slade, uppers, cartoonish depression, Iggy Pop, 70’s iron on font, Sex Pistols, booze and Hawkwind-- their unifying theme is defiantly one of late ’70s proto-punk. Eschewing the genre boundaries in which their other projects are so deeply entrenched, the band manages to channel a pre-internet spirit painfully non-existent in this age of Tumblr fashion and Discogs record collectors.
Swedish EBM masters AUTODAFEH are back with a brand new, their fifth album since 2008! The band describes the album as “Analogue bases, beckoning into a digital world”. This time they returned back to the old synthesizers and drum machines from the 80s and 90s for inspiration and they are using this inspiration within their creative setup to form and blend them into their current digital domain. The band have always valued the process of recording electronic music, setting back from the time when synchronizing machines and Midi Time Code ruled the recording industry. They are happy to announce this 13 track album with great new songs, still with a rough hard beat and strong pumping basslines. AUTODAFEH is still electronic music for body and mind.

Mexico attacks (again…)! Erk Aicrag and Racso Agroyam have become synonymous with electronic aggression for more than two decades. On their new maxi, the two lash out as relentlessly and harsh as in their early days. “In the Name of Violence”... listening to Hocico's brand new EP, one will easily agree that the title “is not just a name”: What emanates from the speakers is pure, electronic violence. It is almost hard to believe that this music comes from a band that had been genre-defining for more than twenty years, so fresh, punky, brash and furious is the sound of the title track and the b-side “Silent Crow.”
But then Hocico have always kept their inner fires burning and the world dishes up enough new shit that is worthy of channeling wrath unto with each and every new day to provide them with eternal fuel for sonic combustion. To make it short: “In the Name of Violence” will up the ante for the international Hard-Electro- community, yet again. The new maxi also contains four very versatile remixes of the title song: the clubby Sex-O-Sex-version from Hocico themselves, a DJ-friendly mix from Faderhead, a noise-inferno from Xotox and an experimentally groovy version by Colts. Perfect material for wrecking your local dance floor! Unleash the violence!
