Following career-best reviews and a Top 20 chart entry for ‘Phantom Radio’ back in October, MARK LANEGAN BAND have announced the release of A Thousand Miles Of Midnight, an album of remixes of tracks from ‘Phantom Radio’ and ‘No Bells On Sunday’, the EP that accompanied it. The album comprises a brilliant array of remixes by artists as diverse as UNKLE, Earth, Moon Gangs, Moby, Tom ‘Horrors’ Furse, Pye Corner Audio, Moby, Thomas Barfod, Mark Stewart, Greg Dulli and Soulsavers. Mark Lanegan says of the album: “I thought these tunes would lend themselves to remixing and that it would be interesting to hear what other artists might make of them. All the people who did remixes are musicians whose work I greatly admire.”
Mark Lanegan Band will be touring the UK in January, beginning a week tomorrow in Glasgow and reaching London for a Shepherd's Bush Empire performance on the 28th:

Een ode aan de menselijke verbeelding, in de vorm van een aanklacht tegen hiërarchisch, op competitie en kwantificeerbare resultaten gericht onderwijs. Deze essayistische documentaire neemt de stelling van onderwijsexpert Sir Ken Robinson als uitgangspunt: we beschikken over de buitengewone kracht van de verbeelding, maar dit talent vernietigen we systematisch in onze kinderen en in onszelf. De film treft van China tot Frankrijk dezelfde klachten.
Regisseur Erwin Wagenhofer benadert grote thema's van onze tijd op een originele en radicale manier. Na films over voedsel (We Feed the World, 2005) en geld (Let's Make Money, 2008) stelt hij zich in Alphabet de vraag hoe we in de huidige crisissen terecht zijn gekomen. Waarom zijn we ongelukkig terwijl we alles hebben? Is de opzet en kwaliteit van ons onderwijs een deel van het probleem?

When kindred souls meet across generations, the result of such cultural crossbreeding is often interesting, sometimes good and, if they really connect on different levels, mesmerizing.
As is the case for NEON ELECTRONICS/ne, the collaboration between Dirk Da Davo - he from THE NEON JUDGEMENT fame - and Glenn Keteleer a- relentless dark techno producer with to albums and a string of EP's under his belt. There is common ground, of course: both already co produced tracks with the likes of THE HACKER, DAVID CARRETTA and MILLIMETRIC, and made applauded appearences on DAVE CLARKE's 'White Noise Radio' playlists.
But perhaps even more significant: both share a dystopian view on present and future, where it's open season for governments and multinational corporations that seem to have recieved a license to kill the privacy and freedom of the individual, and a mutual sonic understanding that includes pounding beats bonanzas next to brooding krautrock, marshy soundscapes and twisted dub. So yes, it's dark. And loud. But it's a darkness with a loudly beating heart. Pretty? No. Hauntingly beautiful?Absolutely.

With four Belgian premieres Sphinx is ready for a new edition of the Pinx Film Festival. For the third year in a row they have a nice selection of gay movies during four days: a program of fiction films, a documentary and a pack of short films.
The opening film 'Something Must Break "is a particular love story between two young men, the sensitive bad boy Andrew and the androgynous Sebastian. Swedish cinema that aims at the heart and even raw, is uncompromising as gripping.
The American independent cinema is also represented, with two strong debut films. In " Concussion " a brave housewife is secretly moonlighting as escort , while in ' Appropriate Behavior' a young bisexual woman looking her way in New York and hopelessly lost. There is also a bit of Hollywood in the festival with " The Normal Heart ," about the early years of the AIDS epidemic with Mark Ruffalo and Julia Roberts in the lead. 'Test' also takes us to the 80 where the affairs of a young dancer standing in a modern dance company in San Francisco central. With haunting dance scenes choreographed by Sidra Bell!
Holland moves us with the acclaimed "Boys " about falling in love and all aspects of this emotional roller coaster. And in the Brazilian drama " Praia do Futuro " we follow those who are looking for love and identity and this put everything on the line.
True stories we see for example in " Violet " about the unknown writer Violette Leduc, who begs for attention Guardian Simone de Beauvoir. In the documentary ' Peter De Rome: Grandfather of Gay Porn' we meet the pioneer of gay erotic film. A beautiful and funny portrait that takes us to a time full of straightforward , playful sex.

Focus op Scandinavië
Met vier Belgische premières is Sphinx helemaal klaar voor een nieuwe editie van het Pinx Film Festival. Voor het derde jaar op rij vertonen ze gedurende vier dagen een mooie selectie holebifilms. Met een programma van fictiefilms, een documentaire en een pak kortfilms tasten ze de (seksuele) grenzen af en gooien ze enkele labels overboord.
De openingsfilm is ‘Something Must Break’, een bijzonder liefdesverhaal tussen twee jonge mannen, de gevoelige bad boy Andreas en de androgyne Sebastian. Zweedse cinema die mikt op het hart en even rauw, compromisloos als aangrijpend is. Met deze speelfilm en een selectie kortfilms leggen ze dit jaar de focus op Scandinavië. Het zijn films die stuk voor stuk focussen op de mens, zijn omgeving en de relaties met anderen.
Ook de Amerikaanse independent cinema is vertegenwoordigd. Ze pakken uit met twee sterke debuutfilms. Onze noorderburen ontroeren met het veelgeprezen ‘Jongens’ over verliefd worden en alle aspecten van deze emotionele achtbaan. En in het Braziliaanse drama ‘Praia do Futuro’ volgen we hen die op zoek zijn naar liefde en identiteit en hiervoor alles op het spel zetten.
Waargebeurde verhalen krijgen we o.a. te zien in ‘Violette’ over de onbekende schrijfster Violette Leduc, die smeekt naar de aandacht van beschermengel Simone de Beauvoir. In de documentaire ‘Peter De Rome: Grandfather of Gay Porn’ maken we kennis met de pionier van de homo-erotische film. Een mooi en grappig portret dat ons meeneemt naar een tijd vol ongecompliceerde, speelse seks.
