With "Once Upon A Time" Sol Invictus pass through the door already opened with the vinyl single "Mr Cruel" last year and step into an alternate universe of Dark Folk, 1970s Prog Rock and Psyche- delia. On his by now 18th album with his main band Tony Wakeford, the cynical godfather of Neofolk, is not only accompanied by old cohorts such as Caroline Jago, Lesley Malone, Éilish McCraken and Renée Rosen, but also receives prominent support courtesy of Agalloch-members Don Anderson (lead guitar) and Jason Walton (mix).
With the once more sharp-tongued lyrics and distinct Sol-Invictus-flair of "Once Upon A Time", Tony Wakeford skilfully manages to clearly hark back to the group's rich history. At the same time however, he incorporates new influences to add another dimension to his band's cosmos, even almost 30 years after its inception.
Thus, Sol Invictus still have something to say even nowadays, both in music and content - and "Once Upon A Time" shows that in an impressive manner.

Synopsis:
Camden Town, the arse-end of the sixties. Two struggling, unemployed actors decide some respite is in order and so depart their miserable flat for a week in the Lake District – one that will involve rain, booze, minimal supplies, a randy bull and an even randier Uncle Monty.
Based on the real-life experiences of former actor turned writer/director Bruce Robinson, Withnail and I has become one of British cinema’s most fondly remembered comedies. A cult film in the truest sense that has also become a classic.
Perfectly cast – with career-defining roles for Richard E. Grant, Paul McGann, Richard Griffiths and Ralph Brown – and crammed with irresistibly quotable dialogue, Withnail and I is a sheer delight, even on the umpteenth viewing.

Dream Police is an American musical production by Nick Chiericozzi and Mark Perro, the founding members of The Men. The project began in 2010 as a reservoir for ideas which had overflowed from The Men's drainpipe. In that same year, a two-song cassette single was self-released, with a follow-up live document in 2011.
In the summer of 2013, The Men had just come home from five straight months of touring. For Perro and Chiericozzi, the desire to create was still strong, so they did what they used to do when they first started the band — they started jamming.
Although the production began using the most conservative rock n’ roll devices, Chiericozzi suggested adding drum machine to the song “Pouring Rain,” and everything changed. Over the next six months, the two Men and their collaborator Kyle Keays-Hagerman spent countless hours reshaping every song, constructing them from nothing. They obsessed over every tone, every part. They’d spend an entire day on one snare crack.
The album slowly plumed into a cloud of future primitive psychedelia bursting with glimmering electronics and cinematic, vibrato storytelling. The result of that process is Hypnotized: something borne from The Men, but free of it. It was mixed the weekend after Tomorrow's Hits was released, and then Perro and Chiericozzi were off again.
Dream Police is not a side project, rather a new realization for the original brains behind The Men's psychedelic & sonically stimulating vision.
