Out today on Unday Records is ‘Song For Two Sisters’, the sophomore album from Blackie & the Oohoos. Blackie & the Oohoos is the band around Loesje and Martha Maieu, two Belgian sisters with a knack for twisted and perplexing tunes. ‘Song For Two Sisters’ is suffused with a tense and dark, otherworldly atmosphere. The psychedelic dream pop and spooky folk is reminiscent of their debut album, but the songs and lyrics have a more mature, eccentric and distilled quality. For those in need of references, Beach House, Beth Gibbons and Mazzy Star might do the trick.
‘Song For Two Sisters’ can now be streamed in its entirety over at 3voor12 Luisterpaal.
The album is out on iTunes, on cd and as a pretty limited gatefold vinyl (also includes the cd).
Formed in Stourbridge in West Midlands in November 1987 Ned's Atomic Dustbin took their name from an episode of The Goon Show.
The band were unusual for using two bass players in their lineup: Alex Griffin played melody lines high up on one bass, and Mat Cheslin played the regular bass lines on the other. This gave the band a tense and highly driven sub-hardcore sound featuring distorted effects-laden guitar and energetic drums.
This anthology consisting of tunes from across their career also features the Video ‘Nothing is Cool’ which is the first time it has appeared on DVD and has been a major request from fans of the band.
The set features sleeve notes by Malcolm Dome who has interviewed lead singer Jonn Penny to give an insight into the band and their career.
The long awaited release of the video recording and CD of the legendary Marc And The Mambas live performances given at The Duke Of York’s Theatre in London’s West End in 1983.
Mastered and restored from the original VHS tape recordings made by the late Peter Christopherson (Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV), these remain the only recordings that exist of Marc And The Mambas performing live.
This limited collector’s edition is intended for Marc Almond’s dedicated fan-base as a souvenir of a renowned and legendary run of concerts and is testament to pivotal moment in the development of his artistry and the direction his post Soft Cell career would take.
This DVD and CD Digi-Pak comes with an eight page booklet containing an extensive reminiscence by Marc Almond himself.
Available on Cherry Red Records.
Well you do we guess, at least if you lived in the 80's.
THE BLOW MONKEYS were formed in the early 1980s by singer and songwriter Robert Howard (stage name: Dr. Robert).
Combining the glamour of Roxy Music with the energy of post-punk, the sophistication of nu-jazz and the vocal and melodic stylings of Marc Bolan and T. Rex, THE BLOW MONKEYS signed to RCA Records in 1984.
Second album ANIMAL MAGIC from 1986 gave them their breakthrough, as the worldwide hit single ‘Digging Your Scene’ was on permanent radio rotation and it's now available on Cherry Red.
This deluxe edition of ANIMAL MAGIC has now finally been re-mastered from the original tapes IIt boasts all of THE BLOW MONKEYS’ non-album B-sides, including their trademark live cover of Curtis Mayfield’s ‘Superfly’. In addition, this 2012 edition boasts six previously unissued demos and recordings created by the band during the sessions for the album, including the otherwise unheard Dr. Robert song ‘Guess I Love Her Now’
