On 16th February 16 Wim Mertens releases with What are we , locks , to do ? his tenth solo album for piano ( and vocals). Mertens himself describes this work as "practical theory" and "theoretical praxis”, thus he means that the composer in contemporary music often stays in the background as a musician and performer. For him, the creator and performer is one person. During the PIAS Nites you can see Wim Mertens on 5th March during an intimate solo concert for the press and (limited) public (Adress: Rue Saint Laurent 36-38 in Brussels) , but you can also see the piano virtuoso at work in Belgium on these dates:

Zelf omschrijft Mertens dit werk als 'practical theory' en als 'theoretical praxis’, daarmee bedoelt hij dat de componist in de hedendaagse muziek vaak op de achtergrond als muzikant en uitvoerder blijft. Voor hem zijn de maker en uitvoerder één persoon.
