In de lijn van misdaadklassiekers als Mean Streets en Infernal Affairs volgt Revenge of the Green Dragons de twee immigrantenbroers Sonny (Justin Chon) en Steven (Kevin Wu). Ze overleven de verpauperde buurten van het New York in de jaren ’80 door zich aan te sluiten bij de Chinese gang ‘The Green Dragons’. Op weg naar top van de misdaadbende trekken ze al snel de aandacht van het harde politiekorps. Als een liefdesaffaire de twee broers tegen elkaar opzet, besluit Sonny wraak nemen op de gang die hem gemaakt heeft tot wie hij is. Regisseurs Andrew Lau en Andrew Loo brengen met uitvoerend producent Martin Scorsese een keiharde mix tussen Hong Kong actie en New Yorkse misdaad rondom het ware en nooit eerder vertelde verhaal van The Green Dragons.
