NEWS Man Of Marble by Andrzej Wajda out on Second Run DVD

Man Of Marble by Andrzej Wajda out on Second Run DVD

02nd of May 2014, 22:01

Andrzej Wajda’s dazzling Man of Marble is also one of the key films of the 1970s. Often described as the ‘Polish Citizen Kane’, Wajda’s epic operates as both an electrifying political saga and a compelling analysis of the nature of cinema itself.

Mateusz Birkut, a bricklayer, glorified in a marble statue as a State-promoted ‘Worker’s Hero’ is subsequently removed from all official mention in 1952. Flash forward to the early 70s where young documentary filmmaker Agnieszka obsessively pursues his story. Birkut’s rise and fall and disappearance into obscurity provides Wajda with a framework for a brave reassessment of the period.

Although suppressed by the authorities, Man of Marble became a milestone in Polish cinema and an undoubted influence in the subsequent dismantling of the totalitarian system in Poland.

This Special Edition 2-Disc DVD set is presented in a superb new director-approved HD digital transfer with restored picture and sound, and features newly filmed and exclusive interviews with director Andrzej Wajda, lead actress Krystyna Janda and 'unofficial' assistant director on Man of Marble, renowned filmmaker Agnieszka Holland - plus a booklet featuring a new essay on the film by writer Michael Brooke.

Release date: May 2014

Two legendary electro/EBM bands PORTION CONTROL & PLASTIC NOISE EXPERIENCE on stage in Antwerp!

02nd of May 2014, 10:57

Both bands should need no introduction to you anymore...
Portion Control being pioneers of electro-industrial music from the early '80's inspiring bands like Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly and Orbital.
Plastic Noise Experience emerging with the second (German) wave in the early '90's with 'Transmission', a release that quickly became a cult album.

Meanwhile both bands kept on supplying us with countless dance-floor killer tracks.
Portion Control did this with classic tracks like 'Chew You To Bits', 'The Great Divide' and the more recent and harsher tracks 'Amnesia' & 'Deadstar'.
Also Plastic Noise Experience delivered their part of party pleasure with tracks like 'Gold', 'Memory Flow' and amazing cover-version of The Klinik's 'Moving Hands'.

Both bands are coming to Antwerp to promote their brand new releases as Portion Control has only just released a 12" vinyl (+ CD) 'Unrest In the Grime' on Minimal-Maximal Records and PNE has just released a brand new DCD album 'Therapy' on Alfa-Matrix on April 4th.

NEWS Elements (Ex-Red Zebra) support Lavvi Ebbel in Antwerp on 20.06

Elements (Ex-Red Zebra) support Lavvi Ebbel in Antwerp on 20.06

02nd of May 2014, 10:47

ELEMENTS were founded in 2011 in Brugge, Belgium. They are a continuation of the legendary new wave band RED ZEBRA, with bass player Sam Claeys on lead vocals. Johan Isselée (drums, synths),Geert Maertens (guitar), and Chris 'Hazy' Deneve (guitar, synths) complete the line up.

Sam's melodic and eclectic vocals, as well as the landscaping synths layered on the repetitive (Red Zebra) drums and guitars, created a novel and interesting, but foremost beautiful, electro & guitar wave sound.
ELEMENTS produce a magnificent modern sound with a melancholic feel.

On their titleless maiden record several pearls such as 'Wisdom of Knowing', 'Renegade', and 'Undecided' emerged as Sirens of a new dawn for the band. Songs such as 'Weak and Lost' provide a propelling drive and will sound familiar at live gigs.

The record was home recorded and mixed by Johan Isselée, Steven Lorie (Mensen Blaffen) and Peter Van Mulders (Cinq Chevaux, live mix ELEMENTS), and gratiously mastered at Abbey Road studios by Adam Nunn ( who also did Radiohead, TV on The Radio, The Human League to name a few... )

. With ELEMENTS these Ex-Red Zebra men are ready to dwell across Belgian and European roads again.

Legendary Vocalist For The Specials, Neville Staple, Premieres Gritty New Video From His Forthcoming New Album!

01st of May 2014, 09:13

The Original Rude Boy returns! Neville Staple, charismatic vocalist/toaster for one of the most celebrated 2 Tone ska bands ever, The Specials, reclaims his place in the spotlight with a triumphant new album to be released on Cleopatra Records on May 13. Entitled Ska Crazy!, the album features phenomenal cover versions of ska/reggae classics by Prince Buster (“Time Longer Than Rope”), The Slickers (“Johnny Too Bad”), and Max Romeo (“Wet Dream”) plus brand new compositions including “Rude Boy Returns,” “Girl,” and the gritty single “Roadblock,” which will make its worldwide debut in a professionally shot music video that premieres on the syndicated music/pop culture webzine Something Else! this coming Monday, April 28.

From the cinematic opening scenes of urban decay filmed in Neville’s hometown Coventry, England, the video bristles with tension as the song’s melodic hook, a killer horn-guitar combo riff, pulsates over shots of graffiti walls and CCTV cameras, like the title sequence to a lost season of The Wire. The dramatic plot of the video, a drug deal that erupts in violence, unfolds as Neville and fellow toaster Daddy Woody act as a Greek chorus warning against youthful hubris. Director Joseph Wallace comments, “I wanted to film a video that approached the subject of street crime seriously, yet still very much retaining the relaxed mood and chilled tone of the music. I wanted Neville walking through Coventry’s cold, empty streets at night singing to the camera as though almost preaching his message; weaving in and out of the narrative itself and blurring the line between performance and social issues.” The video was produced by Rawline Entertainment.

Staple enthuses about the album, “I am so pleased and proud to have put this album together as it includes some old time classic favourites, which I grew up with and which I have added some ‘original rudeboy’ flavour to. My current band are brilliant and they put a lot of time into creating that authentic Jamaican sound with me, that you will hear in the tracks, as well as helping me with the creation of brand new material. You will also hear a lot of vocals from my wife Christine and my good friend and Jamaican DJ artist, Daddy Woody. I hope you all love it as much as I do and I’m dedicating the album to Jerry Dammers and my cousin Alvin who helped me on the way to a career in music.”
