Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins... on Blu-ray 7th July 2014 (Arrow Video)

22nd of June 2014, 11:01

Arrow Video is thrilled to announce the UK Blu-ray release of Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins…, the action-packed 1985 cult classic from renowned Bond director Guy Hamilton (Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever, Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun). The movie will make its worldwide Blu-ray debut on 7th July 2014 in a newly restored transfer with a host of brand-new extra features.

Arrow Video’s newly-restored presentation of the feature, transferred from original film elements by MGM, comes with a bumper crop of special features, including all-new interviews with Joel Grey (who reflects on his role as Chiun), Oscar-nominated make-up expert Carl Fullerton and composer Carl Safan, who talks in some detail about his much-loved score.

The disc will also feature the much-awaited feature-length documentary Remo, Rambo, Reagan and Reds: The Eighties Action Movie Explosion which looks at 80s action cinema and where Remo Williams fits among his peers. The documentary includes new interviews with genre expert Bey Logan, Remo producers Larry Spiegel and Judy Goldstein, celebrated directors Sam Firstenberg (American Ninja) and Mark L. Lester (Commando), producers Don Borchers (Angel) and Garrick Dion (Drive), filmmaker and scholar Howard S. Berger and Professor Susan Jeffords (author of Hard Bodies: Hollywood Masculinity in the Reagan Era)

Alongside this, the Blu-ray disc will also feature the original theatrical trailer, a reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by The Red Dress and a sizable collector’s booklet featuring new writing on the origins of Remo Williams by Barry Forshaw and an on-set report from American Cinematographer magazine.

Synopsis

First they faked his death and gave him a new identity. Now a top secret organisation is training a former New York cop to combat corrupt forces operating outside of the law. His mentor, Chiun, is an ageing Korean master of the martial arts who can run on water and dodge speeding bullets.

Born on the pages of Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir’s The Destroyer series of men’s adventure novels, Remo Williams was placed in the capable hands of Bond director Guy Hamilton (Goldfinger, The Man with the Golden Gun) for his big-screen outing. Fred Ward (Tremors) plays the trainee assassin, with Academy Award-winner Joel Grey (Cabaret) occupying the role of Chiun.

With its classic set-piece atop the Statue of Liberty, much-loved score by Craig Safan and a healthy sense of its own silliness, Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins… offers up a cracking slice of mid-eighties action.

DIE KRUPPS - 'Machinists of Joy Tour' @ Zappa - Antwerp

21st of June 2014, 17:25

After genre-defining releases in the 90's and 80's the band, which the media tried to categorize as Electro, EBM, Industrial, Crossover and even Metal, DIE KRUPPS returns with brand new material. DIE KRUPPS have opened the gates once again to their factory, after some years of running tests and high maintenance. The machinery has been oiled and greased – first works have already been delivered to an expectant fan base: Both 'Risikofaktor' and 'Industrie-Maedchen' reached the pole position in the German Alternative Chart, where they stayed for several weeks. Now it's back to top form, with the first new prototype leaving the assembly line: THE MACHINISTS OF JOY.

Bremen shares new track, new LP out now

21st of June 2014, 17:23

Blackest Ever Black is pleased to present the mind-shattering double LP of dysphoric space-rock minimalism from two luminaries of the Swedish punk underground. It is out this week physically and digitally!

Second Launch follows Bremen’s self-titled debut of 2013 and comprises 11 controlled improvisations, reinforced with overdubs, that take clear inspiration from the dark side of kraut and progressive rock, early electronic and drone music, whilst also owing something to the fathomlessly bleak interior landscapes conjured by Nico/Cale on The Marble Index and Desertshore.

The complex dialogue between Lanchy Orre’s guitar and Jonas Tiljander’s organ, by turns pensive and combative, bound up with their mastery of reverb and feedback, is the focal point of the record; supplemented with drums and sparingly deployed analogue synthesizer tones to evoke nothing less than the vast emptiness of outer space and the obliteration of all meaning and identity in the face of it.

From the full-throttle motorik and bonehead repetitions of ‘Sweepers’ and ‘Entering Phase Two’ (echoes of Tiljander and Orre’s previous work in Brainbombs) to the deep astral psychedelia of ‘Static Interferences’, via the mournful Northern European ambience of ‘Walking The Skies’, the rolling thunder of ‘They Were Drifting’ and the poignant, stargazing blues of ‘Hollow Wave’, Second Launch charts impossible gradients in its search for answers to the oldest questions of all.

You can hear the 15 minute long epic "Static Interferences" below!
