Film Fest Gent & Brussels Philharmonic proudly present a brand new CD combining the best film scores by Cliff Martinez.
Cliff Martinez is a key figure in our time’s film scoring. In the 80’s, he began spending several years drumming with such acts as Captain Beefheart, The Dickies, Lydia Lunch and The Weirdos, and then joining the Red Hot Chili Peppers. His career is exemplary.
His experimental electronic music highlighted many cinematic masterpieces. He has been Steven Soderbergh’s regular composer (‘sex, lies and videotape’; ‘Traffic’; ‘Solaris’; ‘Contagion’) and he has been making a name for himself for a few years now scoring the two last films of visionary Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn, ‘Drive’ and ‘Only God Forgives’.
Cliff Martinez also scored the great ‘Spring Breakers’, ‘Arbitrage’ (Milan Records) and ‘The Company You Keep’ (Milan Records). We now hear about him as he has just scored the first Steven Soderbergh TV series ‘The Knick’ (starring Clive Owen), to be released by Milan Records as well.
This Film Fest Gent album combines the best film scores by Cliff Martinez (‘Solaris’; ‘Only God Forgives’; ‘The Company You Keep’; ‘Contagion’) arranged for orchestra and performed by the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brossé.
You can also buy the CD on the Film Fest Gent Webshop from Wednesday 8 October.

Relentless and hyper-prolific Craig Dyer, poète maudit from the Manchester underground, continues his incessant musical journey through the realms of Rock & Roll and literature with Beautiful & Damned.
A homage to F. Scott Fitzgerald, the 4 track EP of The Underground Youth confirms Dyer’s obsession for the darkest side of literature and poetry of the last two centuries, as well as his proud never-give-up / we-don’t-give-a-f**k DIY approach.
Since 2009, The Underground Youth have made the unique achievement of producing an impressive and extensive catalogue of beautifully home-crafted EPs and LPs, putting them out on limited edition vinyl and gaining a dedicated cult following from all sides of the globe.
Rigorously recorded in their home-studio with the help of producer James Shillito in early 2014, Beautiful & Damned is a preview to their new LP. It is the first TUY material featuring synth and electronic equipment. It also represents a significant shift to a much darker sound and lyrical content, as anticipated by their first single/video Naked, a perfect encounter between the atmospheres of the Cocteau Twins and the early Creation sound.
The vinyl is a 10" limited to 400 copies. 100 on coloured vinyl exclusive to the Fuzz Club shop.
A BIT OF HISTORY
TUY is the name under which Manchester’s underground poet, Craig Dyer, has produced his records since 2009. They have released six albums and several EPs and singles. In 2011, Fuzz Club Records started putting out his prolific catalogue, bringing to light a number of LPs and singles that had only circulated virally on the Internet. Since then, TUY, with Craig and Olya Dyer as the core of the band, have expanded to a four piece, gaining a solid international fan-base and touring all around the UK and Europe. They took part to the Reverb Conspiracy, the annual compilation curated by Fuzz Club and Austin Psych Fest. Last summer they played Eindhoven Psych Lab and headlined Paris Psych Fest. They are currently working on their new LP.

Baran, a Kurdish independence war hero, is now sheriff in Erbil, the capital city. No longer feeling useful in this society now at peace, he thinks about quitting the police force, but instead agrees to be stationed in a small valley, at the very borders of Iran, Turkey, and Iraq. It is a lawless territory, right at the heart of illegal drug, medication and alcohol trafficking. Having arrived in the small village, he refuses to bow down to Aga Azzi, the seriously corrupt tribal chief and absolute ruler of the area. Baran meets Govend, the village school teacher, who is also rejected by the villagers. Like Baran, she represents another law, that of the young and autonomous Kurdish state. Govend is all the more vulnerable as she is not a married woman.
