Estampie goes North...with their most current CD, listeners are taken on a journey to a fascinating, boreal world of sound. The nordic ballads tell tales of knights, trolls, and mountain kings, of enchanted nightingales, magic horses, and dancing bears. As in fairy tales and fables, animals reflect the multifaceted strengths of man, with magical beings such as elves and mermaids intervening in their destinies. Estampie will whisk you away into the timeless Nordic world of love, betrayal, and longing, spinning silver, musical threads and teaching us once again to wonder and marvel in amazement.
You can buy the CD right now !
On the 18th of January, their new album ''Secrets of the North'' will also be available in an exclusive digital version on iTunes. Exclusive being the super remix of ''Linden so grön'' made by Niel Mitra. Niel is of course known to many of you as the man with the dreadlocks on the laptop from FAUN.
No one could better describe the British way of life then Ken Loach.
Kes, sweet Sixteen, The Wind That Shakes The Barley and My Name Is Joe are just one of the man's masterpieces.
His newest film The Angel's Share was another hit and is often described as the Scottish answer to The Full Monty.
Twin Pics releases this movie on both DVD and Blu-ray this January.
Sweden's rocking electro behemoth Agent Side Grinder burst onto the scene in 2008 with their eponymous debut album. The music was an uncompromising, never-heard blend of industrial, post-punk, old style EBM and electro topped with the apocalyptic crooning of singer Kristoffer Grip.
On their second album "Irish Recording Tape", the band developed their musical style further. The songs were maybe more accessible, but the typical elements were intact: drilling industrial sounds, hypnotic synth sequences, feverish vocals and post-punk influenced bass lines. To quote Vice Magazine Germany: "...one of the few bands, which is actually in a position to deal with the legacy of Joy Division". The interest in the band resulted in three European tours and an invitation to support genre forefathers Suicide.
In recent years, Agent Side Grinder has moved towards a bigger and more textured sound. This is evident on their latest work "Hardware". On this record, ASG once again steps into their musical time-machine, has a rendezvous with old masters such as Kraftwerk, Einsturzende Neubaten and Depeche Mode and invite them all on a reckless, rhythmic journey into a bleak future.
This weekend, on Sunday January 13th, they will perform @ Poppodium 013, Tilburg, NL.
"The Only Fun In Town is the album of guitars, signs, sources and wonder I should be talking about in the same love-breath as Empires and Dance, Affectionate Punch, Kilimanjaro - if not Real Life, The Scream and Unknown Pleasures" (Paul Morley, NME, July 1981);
"Spiky, insouciant, sardonic, existentially loaded and debonair. And throughout, their melodies remained pop at heart. Now post-punk punk-funk is the current alt rock flavour, the Edinburgh band sound more prescient still; they also cast a shadow on newsworthy Americans from The Rapture to !!! to Erase Errata - and even Joy Divisionesque Interpol. Before then, much C86-era indie rock (Jasmine Minks, June Brides) and even The Soft Boys and Pavement owed something to them" (Martin Aston, Mojo, August 2004
SORRY FOR LAUGHING + THE TV ART DEMOS
The first ever vinyl release of Sorry For Laughing, the legendary first album by cult Scottish guitar group Josef K, recorded for Postcard Records but destined to become the great 'lost album' of the post-punk era. Recorded at Castle Sound Studios (Edinburgh) in November 1980, Sorry For Laughing should have been issued as Postcard 81-1, but was shelved after the band and label boss Alan Horne decided the 12-song set sounded too polished.
The added bonus of a 12 track CD, The TV Art Demos, featuring all tracks from the band's very first recording sessions in 1979.
Full tracklist: (LP) Fun 'n' Frenzy, Heads Watch, Drone, Sense of Guilt, Art of Things, Crazy to Exist, Citizens, Variation of Scene, Terry's Show Lies, No Glory, Endless Soul, Sorry For Laughing; (CD) Chance Meeting (take #1), Terry's Show Lies, No Glory, Final Request, Art of Things, Romance (take #1), Torn Mentor, Night Ritual, Heads Watch, Chance Meeting (take #2), Sense of Guilt, Romance (take #2)
