NEWS New album for Black Tape For A Blue Girl

New album for Black Tape For A Blue Girl

13th of July 2016, 10:05

Given where Black Tape for a Blue Girl began over a quarter of a century ago with founder Sam Rosenthal's exploration of brooding, extended electronics and strings meshed with deeply revealing lyrics and darkly textured, melodramatic vocal performances, it's striking to see his muse and inspiration reach a new peak on their 11th album, These Fleeting Moments. The ethereal, gothic and darkAmbient stylings that made them one of the originators of American darkwave are offered on this release which coincides with the band's 30th anniversary. Rosenthal reinvigorates their classic sound with the return of original vocalist Oscar Herrera, absent from music for 17 years.

The band emerges from the studio with 70 minutes of powerful, gorgeously yearning tracks born from the same place as their 90s classics Remnants of a Deeper Purity and A Chaos of Desire. Sam's lyrics explore the existential predicaments of time's passage, choices questioned, and loves lost. Oscar's darkly dramatic vocals are complemented by Dani Herrera's emotional and heartfelt voice, Nick Shadow's visceral viola, Brian Viglione's (The Dresden Dolls) driving drums, and Rosenthal's pensive electronics and revelatory songwriting.

Director David Lynch, former pornographic actress Sasha Grey and writer Poppy Z. Brite are some of their more well-known fans.

Hammerfall announces European tour

12th of July 2016, 21:05

One of the most important metal bands in the past 20 years and sometimes hailed as the saviours of heavy metal, HAMMERFALL recently signed a worldwide deal with Napalm Records and will have a brand new album out on November 4th 2016.

In the wake of what will be the band's 10th studio effort, HAMMERFALL will do another celebrated tour over Europe, beginning on January 12th 2017 in Bremen, Germany.

Known for their energetic and engaging live shows, HAMMERFALL have been masters of ground-breaking metal anthems since the start of their remarkable career. With an extensive world tour taking place over the past 2 years, the band is now gearing up for another run following the release of their yet untitled album.

“It’s been a hectic time juggling the remaining shows of the tour with song writing and, ultimately, recording, so the name of this venture feels very fitting”, says guitarist Oscar Dronjak. “The World Wide (r)Evolution was a resounding success on every level with half of the shows sold out, and we can’t wait to get back on stage again to have a gigantic heavy metal party every night with all our Templar friends!”

Catch HAMMERFALL live, when they return to Europe on the following dates,

presented by Metal Hammer, EMP, Musix and Metal.de. More dates to come!

NEWS New album and European tour for Agnes Obel

New album and European tour for Agnes Obel

12th of July 2016, 20:05

‘Citizen Of Glass’ is the new album from Agnes Obel, released October 21 on Play It Again Sam.

‘Citizen Of Glass’ is the follow-up to Obel’s UK breakthrough album ‘Aventine’, which yielded the 6Music playlisted singles ‘Dorian’, ‘Words Are Dead’, and title track ‘Aventine’, and saw the Berlin-based Dane headline gigs at Somerset House, Shepherd’s Bush Empire and Barbican in 2014.

‘Citizen Of Glass’ was recorded, produced and mixed by Obel at Aventine-Neukölln and BrandNewMusic-Studios in Berlin.

“The title comes from the German concept of the gläserner bürger, the human or glass citizen,” says Obel. “It’s actually a legal term about the level of privacy the individual has in a state, and in health it’s become a term about how much we know about a person’s body or biology or history - if they’re completely made of glass we know everything. There’s an increasing sense in this world that you have to make yourself a bit of glass. To be willing to open up, use yourself as material, and not just if you’re an artist or a musician.”

“I worked with the title from the very beginning to push myself to do new things,” she continues. “I wanted to push myself conceptually from the starting point, to push the glass theme throughout the songs in different ways – in the lyrics, in the instruments - to do things in a very new way. As an album, it feels bigger to me, a lot bigger.”

‘Citizen Of Glass’ will be available as a Digital Download, CD with lyric booklet, and on 180g black vinyl LP + download code in a gatefold sleeve. The album is available to pre-order now from www.agnesobel.com

Established as a major star across Europe, Agnes Obel has sold over a million copies of her first two albums, Philharmonics (2010) and Aventine (2013), and her songs have been streamed over 250 million times. She will embark on an extensive European tour in October.
