The World Soundtrack Academy aims at supporting film music, sound design, composers and their worldwide promotion. In fifteen years time, the membership of the WSAcademy grew into a group of 370 international film (music) professionals deciding on the nominees for the annual World Soundtrack Awards through several rounds of voting. Besides these first nominees, the Academy will also select five nominees for the Discovery of the Year 2015 by the end of August. Finally the public can also nominate their favorite score by voting for the Public Choice Award on the website until 5 September 2015.

The World Soundtrack Awards will celebrate its 15th anniversary with one of the most brilliant film composers of his generation, Alan Silvestri, known for his scores of 'Back to the Future', 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' and 'Forrest Gump'. Film Fest Gent will also be recording and releasing an album with the scores of Silvestri. The recording will take place on 19 – 20 – 21 August at Flagey Studios in Brussels, recorded by Galaxy Studios and conducted by Music Director of Film Fest Gent Dirk Brossé and performed by Brussels Philharmonic & Flemish Radio Choir.
Following Film Fest Gent’s focus on British cinema this year, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to composer Patrick Doyle at the World Soundtrack Awards. In addition to Doyle’s oeuvre and in line with tradition, Discovery 2014 Daniel Pemberton will also be performing that evening.
The 15th World Soundtrack Awards & Concert will take place on 24 October 2015 at Kuipke in Ghent. All info & tickets: can be found on worldsoundtrackawards.com. You can listen to the WSAwards playlist and much more on the Spotify account van Film Fest Gent.
Well, you waited quite long for it, not? Here is the new clip.....
The Destruction Unit have about a month left until their recently announced Negative Feedback Resistor LP finally hits the streets via Sacred Bones Records. Earlier this summer the band announced the album simply with a manifesto of sorts, declaring that there is no chance of Destruction Unit slowing down, or obeying any set of 'rules' when it comes to making this music. Out of left field came the first 'single' from the album, "If Death Ever Slept," which took what you'd imagine a followup track to their beloved Deep Trip LP would sound like and spun it on its head. It's faster, meaner, and the entire track set at a blitzkrieg pace.
This past weekend saw the band play Berserktown Festival in Santa Ana, CA as "Destruction Unit & Friends," boasting a lineup of nine individuals on stage. This is no unusual act for the band. The lineup featured Alex Zhang Hungtai (Dirty Beaches, Last Lizard) and Don Bolles (The Germs) who both appear on the upcoming album, as well as many others.
Today the band are sharing album closer "The Upper Hand," which is another uncompromising audio assault -- if Motörhead took too much acid and bought some wah pedals and met up with Discharge to make a track, this is what it might sound like.
The band was recently in NYC for a weekend of shows and spent a chunk of that time with SPIN Magazine. You can read their profile on the band and listen to the new track here. For everything else, including tour dates and album info, see below!

Described as one of the hardest-hitting prison dramas in British screen history A Sense Of Freedom, the striking true story about notorious reformed Glasgow gangster Jimmy Boyle, comes to DVD courtesy of Odyssey.
Charged with murder twice and cleared when barely into his twenties, Jimmy Boyle was Scotland’s most feared gangster – a Gorbals ‘hard man’ notorious for his extreme violence. Then he got a taste of his own medicine when he was sentenced to life in a Scottish prison where the regime, with its punishment beatings and solitary confinement, was every bit as brutal as that on the street. Yet out of this bleak and seemingly dead-end system of crime and punishment came an extraordinary chance of redemption, which drove Boyle to make something positive of his life in ways that neither he nor anyone else could ever have imagined.
Directed by John Mackenzie (The Long Good Friday) and featuring a sensational lead performance from Trial & Retribution star David Hayman, the BAFTA-nominated A Sense of Freedom remains one of the most searing, shocking and thought-provoking prison dramas ever seen and is released on DVD on 12 October 2015, in both its blistering original version and a controversial later dubbed and edited version.
Made shortly after the equally intense prison drama Scum, A Sense of Freedom is based on Boyle’s autobiography of the same name and also stars leading Scottish acting talent including Fulton Mackay (Porridge), Jake D’Arcy (Tutti Frutti), Alex Norton (Taggart), Sean Scanlan (Rab C. Nesbitt), Jimmy Yuill (Wycliffe), John Stahl (Game of Thrones) and outrageous Scottish comedian Hector Nicol (Just A Boys’ Game).
