In 2001 the Future-Pop/Techno veterans XP8 began their foray into the music world. In that time they have released over ten albums and EPs. The Italian duo, now based in England, have announced that their upcoming show at the UK's Alt-Fest will be their final show. While they have not ceased operating, they will not be playing any shows for the foreseeable future. The band notes due to low show attendance, low performance fees and day job commitments as reasons why they are no longer playing live. They promise to make their final show at Alt-Fest one to remember. Alt-Fest takes place August 15th-17th in Kettering, England and has such artists as Marylin Manson, The Cult, and Front 242 headlining. XP8 will be playing on August 16th at the Industrial/Electronica stage.
Anna Calvi releases the ‘Strange Weather’ EP with covers of Bowie & Suicide
Anna Calvi released a 5 track covers EP entitled ‘Strange Weather’, on 14th July 2014. Produced by Thomas Bartlett (The National, Antony and the Johnsons, Sam Amidon) and recorded in New York, the EP features covers of tracks by Suicide, David Bowie, FKA twigs, Connan Mockasin as well as a stunning collaboration with David Byrne on the title track, a cover of Keren Ann’s ‘Strange Weather’. The cover of Suicide’s Ghost Rider was recorded with drummer Matt Johnson (Jeff Buckley), and Nico Muhly contributes string arrangements to the EP opener, a deconstructed organic reworking of FKA twigs’ ‘Papi Pacify’.
- Papi Pacify (FKA twigs)
- I’m The Man, That Will Find You (Connan Mockasin) – featuring David Byrne
- Ghost Rider (Suicide)
- Strange Weather (Keren Ann) – featuring David Byrne
- Lady Grinning Soul (David Bowie)

Peek-A-Boo says it's haunting!
It seems a lifetime ago when The Space Lady was only a name whispered in niche music circles or bellowed on San Franciscan street-corners. The Space Lady’s Greatest Hits appeared in Autumn 2013 and heralded an exciting few months as the near-mythical “outsider” street musician’s star ascended. Now, not even a year later, The Space Lady will be embarking on a full month-long European mainland tour following her successful “stage-debut” tour through USA and the UK. You can watch her performance of 'Major Tom' at Rudolf Steiner House in London back in April below...
Fast becoming adept at the increased power of live P.As and the acoustic dynamics of new spaces, The Space Lady’s continued tour of planet Earth kicks off in Italy before a whistle-stop tour of the classical world. Heading west into Austria, then the A-Synth Festival in St. Gallen, The Space Lady will touch down in Tilburg for one of Europe’s most prestigious festivals, Incubate. Sweden, Germany, France, Benelux and then Iberia will all experience the open-hearted, life-affirming glow that a Space Lady show promises.
Each performance thus far has seen performer and audience connected in a unique, loving embrace with The Space Lady picking up accolades from and sharing stages with the likes of everyone from Dean Blunt, Julianna Barwick and Tara Jane O’Neil, all perhaps owing a little to a true original. The Space Lady live is a transcendent experience bereft of cynicism and negativity, it is a loving environment in which anything seems possible.

“It matches the slow burning sound with equally unsettling visuals. Compiling both emotional and cold scenes contrasted against a stark industrial backdrop - each moment is portrayed like a memory as the song climaxes and the tension between the two is brought to the forefront. It's a pretty bold statement from a pretty brilliant new band.”
Last year PSYCHO 44 put together an impressive team to record their debut album ‘Suburban Guide To Springtide’. With dEUS drummer Stephane Misseghers on production duties and Adam Noble, famous for his work with Muse, Placebo, and Basement Jaxx on the mixing board, a hard-hitting cluster bomb was crafted.
The title track to the album now gets released as a single. Think Nirvana’s ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ making out with Ash’s ‘Goldfinger’ in a sleazy vermin infested squat. A slow burning track building up to blistering finale, as catchy as an early summer flu.
Director Jef De Smet explains: “The basic idea for this video was to tell an unconventional story. Using human characters, but with a larger than life twist to them. The distinction between these emotionally expressive characters and static characters with a lack of any emotion helped us create a tension between the characters. This tension is made apparent in the second part of the video, when characters start to flow interchangeably, where combinations are created and others are avoided.”
“Suburban Guide To Springtide is about our experiences as teenagers growing up, both good and bad,” singer Gaelian continues, “its theme is similar to The Beach Boys’ 'Pet Sounds' or Arcade Fire’s 'The Suburbs'. In the studio we tried to give the melancholic melody an eerie touch, to give it that vintage feeling. We all interpret the song differently, because of our personal backgrounds, so when it came to drawing up the storyboard we really enjoyed Jef’s approach.”
