As a child, Ali Neuman narrowly escaped being murdered by Inkhata, a militant political party at war with Nelson Mandela's African National Congress. Only he and his mother survived the carnage of those years. But as with many survivors, the psychological scars remain. Today, Ali is chief of the homicide branch of the South African police in Cape Town. One of his staff is Brian Epkeen, a free-wheeling white officer whose family was originally involved in the establishment of apartheid but who works well with Neuman. Together they have to deal with crime that inevitably exists in sprawling areas of un- and under- employed people, crime exacerbated by gangs, both local and from other parts of Africa. Their job gets even more difficult when the corpses of two young women are found. A new evil has been introduced in the city and a new drug has been introduced to its residents, including both murder victims. At the chaotic crossroads where brutality and modernization collide, the echoes of...

The actress Sasha Grey will be presenting the feature ‘Open Windows’ by Nacho Vigalondo at the 41st Film Fest Gent On Friday 24th of October.
Since she left the adult movie world in 2009 Sasha Grey has gone on to star in HBO’s 'Entourage', published books, and deejays internationally. She starred in Steven Soderbergh’s 'The Girlfriend Experience' and penned the internationally successful novel 'The Juliette Society' in 2013 that took her on a world tour – from Russia and Italy to Ukraine, Mexico and Brazil, as well as numerous international television appearances.
‘Open Windows’
Sasha Grey stars opposite to Elijah Wood in Vigalondo’s first English feature. Wood plays Nick, the biggest fan of the actress Jill Goddard (Grey) and webmaster of jillgoddardcaught.com. Nick has won the main prize in an online contest and gets to meet his favorite actress. But then the dinner is cancelled. Through a mysterious man, Nick is given access to every last detail of Jill's life on his computer, but a simple click on the mouse leads to unforeseeable consequences.
Grey on playing the part of Jill: “The characters I look for, those that interest me, are strong women and Jill, my character in 'Open Windows' had everything I wanted." Vigalondo shot the film using webcams, tablets, mobile phones, CCTV cameras and satellites, which delivered a high-tech 21st century version of the classic paranoia film 'Rear Window'.
Tickets for the exclusive screening on Friday 24th of October at Kinepolis Ghent, with Sasha Grey in attendance, are available at www.filmfestival.be. Film Fest Gent will run from 14 to 25 October.
Reverb Post Punk
7" white vinyl (Manic Depression)
M!R!M is the solo project of Jack Milwaukee based in London.
Called post-punk Jack's music is obsessed by The Jesus & the Mary Chains' dirty sound guitars, flirting with Suicide's frenzy. Powerful, dynamic, dirty yet hypnotizing and aerial.
After two EPs, "Enjoy your Sorrow", "It's not enough anymore" (afmusic), and an aclaimed album "Heaven" (Fabrika Records), Manic Depression is proud to release its new EP "Reel / Flowers In Bloom".
Schonwald is a duo from Italy
Schonwald is all about atmospheres: hypnotic minimalist mood and a noise inclination with echoes of Suicide, New Order, The Cure, mingling with synth melodies straight from the '80.
A chilling and hopelessly bleak drum-machine rhythm sets the tone, parting the waves of rippling darkness into a massive surge of inescapable, hushed-yet-crushing electronic melancholia. European post punk at it’s finest, Alessandra and Luca of Schonwald create a pulsing, black-lit atmospheric electronic vibration so cold, hypnotic, and simple, it’s perfect for our endlessly frozen world.
