European tour from Wolvserpent

17th of September 2014, 17:51

Boise, Idaho duo Wolvserpent formed in 2009. Wolvserpent plays a masterful mix of apocalyptic doom, dark folk, avant-orchestral drone and blackened, sepulchral ambience. Creating beautifully bleak visuals of other worlds, times and spaces. Some that are vibrant and full and some that have long turned to dust and been drained of life. 2010 saw the release of their debut full-length, Blood Seed, which was met with immense critical acclaim and quickly sold out of its limited edition pressings. In 2012 the band signed to renowned indie label Relapse Records and recorded their sophomore full-length entitled Perigaea Antahkarana , a four song 80 minute opus, with producer/engineer Mell Dettmer in Seattle. Released September 17 2013. Perigaea Antahkarana is Wolvserpent’s most haunting and diverse material to date. The pair’s sprawling compositions gracefully wend their way through the valleys of death, drone, black metal, doom, and chamber music and arrive triumphantly on foreign shores. Borne of its creators’ 20+ years of classical training and deep appreciation for the works of composers like Arvo Part, Gyorgy Ligeti, and Krzysztof Penderecki, Wolvserpent’s vision combines stringed amplified instruments with a 21st century approach to composition to create works that are dark, emotional, menacing, cinematic, atmospheric, and heartbreakingly beautiful.

Of Perigaea Antahkarana Pitchfork warned listeners, “even when Wolvserpent sounds plainly pretty, a hint of danger lurks steadfast in the background, foreshadowing the tumult that inevitably arrives,” as Metal Injection remarked “Perigaea Antahkarana is an album that is monumentally huge. Monolithic riffs meeting sprawling post-rock black metal, with elements of drone create such an album that is large in length and in scope.” Cvlt Nation also intoned, “Perigaea Antahkarana flows from deeply felt and atmospheric sounds of nature – crows cawing and a fire crackling – laid over a melancholic and rich string sound (Brittany McConnell) that weaves itself around the increasingly claustrophobic noises and a subtle howling wind.

New Build have announced details of the release of a new single.

17th of September 2014, 17:44

New Build have announced details of the release of a new single.

Look In Vain, is released on Sunday Best Recordings on Monday 20th October 2014.

Look In Vain is taken from their forthcoming new 10-track self-produced album, Pour It On, which was recorded at their own Lanark Studios in Shoreditch and Club Ralph in West London with Mark Ralph (Franz Ferdinand, Clean Bandit). It will be released on Sunday Best Recordings on Monday 20th October 2014.

The album taps rich seams in unexpected places. The 10 songs work best when seemingly radically different ideas are juxtaposed. Steered by the pair's love of new-age folk music (Richard and Linda Thompson, Incredible String Band), vintage British science fiction (John Wyndham) and modern techno (they DJ all over the place), the messages woven into the album are poetic and political; in some ways harking back to a time that never was, to those halcyon days of the golden future.

"Even though it has elements of Chicago house and Detroit techno, there's definitely an eccentric, English feel to the record," says Al from the band who played with LCD Soundsystem as a guitarist during time off from Hot Chip. "I was interested in getting a sense of pathos into this actually quite uplifting music."

The band recently unveiled the first track from the album, The Sunlight, with a video directed by renowned film-makers Sam Lawlor and Lindsey Pollock (The One That Got Away).

The band, who this summer appeared at both the Glastonbury and Bestival festivals and more recently played a low-key secret show at London’s Betsey Trotwood pub, have announced details of a UK tour.

NEWS Vieon’s debut album available in September 2014

Vieon’s debut album available in September 2014

17th of September 2014, 17:41

With influences from 1970s synthpop pioneers such as Jarre and Kraftwerk filtered through the cinematic soundscapes of 1980s electronic film scores, Vieon takes the sounds of the analogue past and dystopian future and blends them together with catchy synth hooks, bass grooves and epic solos to create evolving, emotive and spacey electronic music that will move you.

With a true retro sensibility that is rare amongst the current crop of electronic bands, Vieon's The Sound Of The Future takes all the best bits of their influences and manages to create something quietly euphoric and triumphant, part Vangelis, part Goldfrapp, part Kavinsky and all their own. This album will work it's way into your mind and take you through a Tron-esque landscape full of bright, neon possibilities.

With Vieon’s debut album available in September 2014 via AnalogueTrash Records; the future is definitely bright.

NEWS Leeds punks BROKEN ARM unveil 'Life is Short' video

Leeds punks BROKEN ARM unveil 'Life is Short' video

17th of September 2014, 17:38

Having just released their debut album on Gringo Records/Art for Blind, Leeds' punks Broken Arm share the new murderous video for album title track, 'Life Is Short'. Shot in twelve hours, the video was inspired by the French film Man Bites Dog/It Happened in Your Neighborhood, general low budget horror and grim kitchen sink dramas. Watch it below...

Broken Arm's debut full length is an exercise in grooving noise rock, filth and disillusionment. Broken Arm have the perfect knack for writing a catchy post punk tune and smearing a healthy amount of dirt all over it.

Broken Arm formed in Leeds in the late 2000’s from the ashes of noise punk outfits Sailors, Woman, Like a Kind of Matador and more recently Mob Rules. Their debut release “Shields Mystical” was a short and punchy CD EP released in 2008. After a lengthy absence the band eventually followed up with their first outing on vinyl, the 7” EP “Negative” released in 2011 by Gringo Records.

Once described by the band themselves as agro-party punk, Broken Arm’s sound is frequently compared to that of various US hardcore punk bands, primarily from the rosters of AMRep, Touch and Go and SST Records. Their debut album Life is Short sees them flit effortlessly between their two distinct musical personalities, the catchy and scrappy noise rock band and their more reflective and at times dirge ridden side, sometimes within the confines of a single song.

The album is split release between Gringo Records (Nottingham) and Art For Blind (Cork, nee Leeds) and will be released on Vinyl and digital download only. The album was recorded in Leeds by Matt J (Hookworms, Joanna Gruesome & Mazes) at Suburban Home.
