The dance world way too often privileges the new, and not many dance artists write albums as good as In A Dream, the third full-length album by THE JUAN MACLEAN, this far into their career. The Juan Maclean have weathered electroclash, disco-punk, electro-disco, techno, house, deep house, and whatever we can call the sound of today. They never feel totally in step with the moment, but somehow always feel right and necessary. Put differently: there’s always something exciting to say about the music, regardless of the release date.
Let’s start with Nancy Whang. Nancy's voice has always been a kind of secret weapon on The Juan MacLean records, but this album is her triumph. Just take a look above at the album art where she’s front and centre. This is the Nancy Show -- you get all sides of Nancy on this record, a wide range of expression. These are all love songs, but emotions run wild. And you can't pull this off without Nancy -- she's not living in these songs, she's leading them.
Like every Juan record, this one quotes freely from house and techno and disco. Dead drums and vintage synthesizers are abundant. This is a DFA record, after all. But early on in their career, The Juan MacLean stopped sounding like genres and just started sounding like The Juan MacLean. Part of that is lyrical -- how the words interact with the melodies that carry them. The diction is always off in all the right ways. Another distinction is how much fun Juan and Nancy have with the arrangements of their songs. Different parts interact and play off one another in a way that’s remindful of the interplay on classic disco records.
The Juan Maclean always get away with EVERYTHING. For one, they always figure out a way to make the very old sound very new. For instance, the main groove on the album’s first track, “A Place Called Space,” is a combination of epic prog/rock, phased hi-hats, Moroder bass, vocals on delay, spacey lyrics. You've heard this before. But the surprise chorus halfway through is what makes it work: "It's too late, don't play your games here anymore," Nancy sings. All that colour and emotion… like she's chastising the song itself. Secondly, they always GO THERE. The sounds you’re just not supposed to reach for, the Juan always reaches for. The second season centers on former FBI agent Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) and his niece Max Hardy (Jessica Stroup) and their attempts to find serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) following Joe's faked death. After a new group, led by Lily Gray (Connie Nielsen) and her sons Mark and Luke (Sam Underwood), begins to develop and make public statements to lure Joe out of his hiding, Mike Weston (Shawn Ashmore) is re-recruited in order to find the new potential cult and teams with Ryan and Max to track down Joe and Lily. Meanwhile Joe is back to his old ways as he, along with his right-hand Emma (Valorie Curry), begin to draw plans to turn a new group of followers to his will. Things take a turn when Joe's ex-wife and the woman Ryan had an affair with, Claire Matthews (Natalie Zea), again enters the picture after Ryan and Joe believed her to be dead.

Having already dropped what LA Weekly called a "trangressive art" release, 3TEETH are one of the most talked-about industrial acts on the planet right now.
And with good reason: their live show smokes, their media blitz is genius, and their debut work is one of the most powerful guitar-industrial records in years.
The band spent the better part of a year commissioning remixes, many of which were released as limited digital-only download teasers. Now, all of the 3TEETH remixes are collected on a 15-track album called simply REMIXED. Included are stellar mixes from notable acts such as Aesthetic Perfection and ∆AIMON, as well as fan-favourites such as the ridiculously amazing Mr. Skeleton remix and the equally sick work by Randolph & Mortimer. The remix album is released through Artoffact Records and comes in a beautifully designed 6-panel digipak.
Die So Fluid Releases 'Landslides' Music Video & Announces Finnish Tour Dates
Los Angeles / London based gothic rock band Die So Fluid have released the official music video for their track "Landslides (originally premiering with Bloody Disgusting). The track is from the band's album "The Opposites Of Light" which will be released in the U.S. later this year. The band has also announced the dates of their upcoming tour of Finland. The tour kicks off in Tampere on September 3rd and wraps up in Lahti on September 7th.
'Landslides' is a track from the darker, more introspective side of our new album 'The Opposites Of Light'. The song is about intense desire and loyalty. The video is an emotional and psychedelic trip into a shamanic desert scene highlighting the dream-time qualities of the song. The lyrics were partly inspired by my fascination with Carlos Castaneda, a kind of cult leader who wrote books about shamanism. Narrated in first person, they have sold millions but some critics say they're works of fiction. He had three female followers who lived with him, changed their names, and cut off ties to family and the outside world. They mysteriously disappeared after his own death. The remains of one of these women was found in Death Valley near where her abandoned car had been discovered. I directed this video myself and used a Go Pro camera that a very generous Die So Fluid fan gave me. We filmed it at the magical Vasquez Rocks where Star Trek was shot, I'm lucky to live nearby.
