SIGLO XX early EPs reissued as a BOX set!

01st of November 2018, 17:15

SIGLO XX
[BOX] 3xLP / CD

In 1978 a few friends started rehearsing and playing music together in a garage in Genk, an industrial and former mining town in Belgium. They called themselves Siglo XX. The group's name is Spanish for "Twentieth Century" and refers to a Bolivian mine named Siglo XX, where there was social unrest, so the link with the city of Genk was obvious. Genk also had to cope with social issues as unemployment, poverty and drug related problems after the closure of the coal mines.
The members of Siglo XX were Erik Dries (vocals), Antonio Palermo (guitar), Dirk Chauvaux (guitar, bass), Klaas Hoogerwaard (drums), Chris Nelis (synthesizer ; 1980–1982) and Guido Bos (bass ; 1978–1984). Under influence of the punk spirit coming from England, they wanted to make their very own kind of music that expressed their feelings, emotions and views on society. Technical skills on musical instruments were only required to a lesser extent. In 1980 their debut 7" single "The Naked And The Death" was released on their own independent label Straatlawaai Records (the label still exists today). This single was followed by the release of a self-titled cassette in 1982, distributed only in very small quantities and reissued on Onderstroom in 2010 on vinyl.
Shortly after they signed to Antler Records. This was probably the most important and prolific era of the band's existence. In the span of a few years the band released two EPs and one mini-album: The Art Of War (1982), Answer (1983) and Dreams Of Pleasure (1983), containing 13 songs altogether, which constitute the heart and soul of the oeuvre of Siglo XX. On these songs produced by label owner Roland Beelen, Siglo XX lingers between cold wave, new wave and post punk. They were often named the Belgian Joy Division, which makes sense listening to their dark and gloomy sound but they also experimented with strange sounds and incorporated these cleverly in their songs.

This month it’s 32 years since the English Electro / EBM heads from Nitzer Ebb unveiled maybe one of their most famous and biggest dance-floor classics, Murderous! A bomb of a song that turned out to be the advance single from what would become maybe THE NEB album of all time, That Total Age! An album we still had to wait for until May 1987 and which still can be found on various top-lists of the best industrial albums ever.
The B-side of this 7 "single had the up-tempo track Fitness To Purpose while the 12 " version had also the 'Repetition' version' of Muderous pressed on it.

Where is the youth?

Enjoy!

Enjoy!

33 years ago Ministry released (Every Day Is) Halloween!

31st of October 2018, 13:23

Today it’s Halloween so it’s the perfect day to remind you of Ministry’s release of the single '(Every Day Is) Halloween'. Originally released by Wax Trax! Records as an non-album b-side for the Ministry “comeback” single 'All Day' after they left Arista Records. The remixed version of 'All Day', titled 'All Day Remix', was featured on Ministry's 1986 album Twitch. '(Every Day is) Halloween' did not make it on this album but was included one year later (1987) on Ministry's compilation album Twelve Inch Singles (1981-1984).
In 2010 '(Every Day Is) Halloween' was re-released as an 6-track digital EP by Cleopatra Records. Besides the original version this EP features also four remixes and one cover version.

Ever since it’s first release (Every Day Is) Halloween has been adopted as one of the anthems of the (American) Industrial and Gothic community.

(Every Day Is) Halloween (Lyrics)
Well I live with snakes and lizards
And other things that go bump in the night
'Cause to me everyday is Halloween
I have given up hiding and started to fight
I have started to fight
Well any time, any place, anywhere that I go
All the people seem to stop and stare
They say "why are you dressed like it's Halloween?
You look so absurd, you look so obscene"
Oh, why can't I live a life for me?
Why should I take the abuse that's served?
Why can't they see they're just like me
It's the same, it's the same in the whole wide world
Well I let their teeny minds think
That they're dealing with someone who is over the brink
And I dress this way just to keep them at bay
'Cause Halloween is everyday
It's everyday
Oh, why can't I live a life for me?
Why should I take the abuse that's served?
Why can't they see they're just like me
It's the same, it's the same in the whole wide world
Oh, why can't I live a life for me?
Why should I take the abuse that's served?
Why can't they see they're just like me
I'm not the one that's so absurd
Why hide it why fight it?
Hurt feelings best to stop feeling hurt
Denials, reprisals
It's the same it's the same in the whole wide world
It's the same it's the same in the whole wide
It's the same it's the same in the whole wide
It's the same it's the same in the whole wide world

Formshift and Dirk Da Davo present.... E-SOCIETY!

30th of October 2018, 17:15

E-SOCIETY is the outcome of the collaboration between Formshift and Dirk Da Davo (The Neon Judgment / Neon Electronics) and became an instant killer track. The title track of this digital release EP features the pounding, synth heavy Formshift and the rough vocals of Dirk Da Davo which seem to form the perfect combination. This track has a Electro Punk EBM kinda vibe.

The second track is a remix by FRANK NOSEDA of the “WHAT WE WANT” track from “Formshift featuring Neon Electronics”. While this track had been laying around for a while it never got an official release until now. Remastered and ready for the dark basement parties “WHAT WE WANT” is subtitled as “NOSEDA DARK TECHNO REWORK”.

The radio edit and original version of this track also got the remastering treatment.

As a bonus the 3DFLY single 'Avalanche' remix from Formshift was added!
