NEWS A Strange Play - An Alfa Matrix Tribute To The Cure

A Strange Play - An Alfa Matrix Tribute To The Cure

29th of September 2014, 21:05

Everyone born between 1970 and 1980 has undergone a THE CURE brainwashing, voluntary or not, filled with genius songwriting pearls by Robert Smith & co. Whereas other bands that grew up alongside with them ended up with albums that no longer stand the test of fandom, THE CURE has been able to maintain an overall quality throughout the years, constantly offering unforgettable extended live shows made of nostalgic classic mixed with newer songs, and always reminding us that the unique "THE CURE magic" has remained intact!

Today the Alfa Matrix label roster is paying homage to this great and unique band: THE CURE, choosing classic radio hits but also songs that are less known to the public-at-large but which deserve even more to be heard again, showing that the songs written by Robert Smith and current/ex-members also lend themselves to different music style treatments...

All electronic music genres have their very own ambassadors on this 31-track double CD compilation from electro dance to pop rock through dark elektro and modern EBM. Compiled by and for THE CURE fans, "A Strange Play - a tribute to The Cure" will offer you astounding interpretations of classic hits like "A Forest" (MARI CHROME), "Just Like Heaven" (LOVELORN DOLLS), "Charlotte Sometimes" (KANT KINO), "Lullaby" (CYNICAL EXISTENCE), "The Walk" (STAR INDUSTRY), "The Lovecats" (JUNKSISTA), "Fascination Street" (ZOMBIE GIRL), "Lovesong" (SEBASTIAN KOMOR), "Close To Me" (METROLAND), "Pictures Of You" (DIFFUZION), "Why Can't I Be You" (PLASTIC NOISE EXPERIENCE), etc. But some Alfa Matrix bands also dug deeper within THE CURE's huge discography and vast repertoire of songs, covering tracks like "In Your House" (ALIEN VAMPIRES), "Jumping Someone Else's Train" (KANT KINO), "Cold" (TOTEM OBSCURA), "The Drowning Man" (TECHNOIR), "A Strange Day" (AIBOFORCEN), Lament (MONDTRÄUME), "The Figurehead" (SCHWARTZBLUT), "A Night Like This" (XMH), "The Baby Screams" (ARMAGEDDON DILDOS), "Fight" (I:SCINTILLA), "Anniversary" (AESTHETISCHE), "Burn" (HELALYN FLOWERS & ESSENCE OF MIND), "Friday I'm In Love" (COSMIC ARMCHAIR), "Prayers For Rain" (HALO IN REVERSE & REGENERATOR), "Disintegration" (AVARICE IN AUDIO), "Trust" (ACYLUM), "All Cats Are Grey" (AIBOFORCEN), or yet "Sleep When I'm Dead" (NEIKKA RPM).

THE CURE was, is, and will continue to be a major influence and reference, conscious or not, for many underground artists and music lovers. We hope that together with us you will rediscover THE CURE in a way you didn't expect, cruising through their vast catalogue in different soundscapes but always remaining faithful to the band's darker sound.

William Shatner in the new Star Trek?

29th of September 2014, 18:11

William Shatner is considering a return to the "Star Trek" franchise after turning down director J.J. Abrams' advances to feature in the first of the filmmaker's new movies.

The original Captain Kirk has confirmed Abrams, who is a producer on the third film in the updated series, has reached out to him again, and this time Shatner is interested.

Speaking at the Nashville Comic Con in Tennessee, the actor said, "He (Abrams) said, 'I'm calling, Bill, because the director of the Star Trek movie, the next one, has had an idea where you might be involved in it. So I am calling to see if you would be interested'."

Shatner told fans he would be interested if the role is "meaningful," adding he would be "delighted" to be part of "Star Trek 3," which will be directed by Bob Orci.

Röyksopp will release their fifth and final album

29th of September 2014, 17:27

Röyksopp will release their fifth and final album ‘The Inevitable End’ on 24th November 2014, through their own Dog Triumph via Wall Of Sound and Cooking Vinyl.

‘The Inevitable End’, is electronic music overlords Röyksopp’s most personal album to date and the second album release in the space of 6 months, following the critically acclaimed mini album and sell out tour ‘Do It Again’ with fellow Scandinavian legend Robyn.

“With ‘The Inevitable End’ we've moved into a darker subject matter, with emphasis on the lyrical content. This candid approach feels very both personal, sincere and conclusive.” says Svein, “With this album it became clear we wanted to make an album in a classical sense even if it's the last one we make,” adds Torbjørn

Having now created five complete bodies of work, the pair feel like the future is open to being more experimental with how they share their music.

“We feel like this is a goodbye to the traditional album format,” explains Svein. “In our consecutive run of albums, we have been able to say what we want to say and do what we want to do with the LP. We're not going to stop making music, but the album format as such, this is the last thing from us.”

The Visitor - on Blu-ray & DVD 6th October (Arrow Video)

29th of September 2014, 17:23

Arrow Video is thrilled to announce the release of the 1979 B-movie sci-fi/horror mash-up The Visitor, available on Blu-ray & DVD from 6th October. A bizarre blend of The Exorcist, The Omen and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Visitor was criticised and humorously dubbed ‘a turkey made of cement’, yet it has recently gone on to become something of a cult classic in its own right.

The Visitor is the ultimate experience in B-movie madness from Ovidio G. Assonitis, producer extraordinaire and director of such deliciously guilty pleasures as Beyond the Door and Tentacles. Described by various sources as “one of the most mind-altering cinematic experiences of the 1970s” and “the Mount Everest of insane ‘70s Italian movies”, The Visitor brings together an astonishing ensemble cast (Lance Henriksen, Shelley Winters and Mel Ferrer to name but a few) in a hallucinatory intergalactic tale of a demonic little girl and her pet hawk. In the words of one astute reviewer, The Visitor is “the most fun you can have in a movie theatre without risking permanent brain damage”!

In addition to offering a high definition (1080p) and Standard Definition presentations of the feature, this release will also feature interviews with star Lance Henriksen, screenwriter Lou Comici and cinematographer Ennio Guarnieri. The Reversible sleeve features original artwork and a praised newly commissioned cover art by Erik Buckman. The collector’s booklet features new writing on the film, illustrated with original stills.

Synopsis

You may think you’ve seen it all, but NOTHING can prepare you for The Visitor! The ultimate excursion into B-movie madness, this 1979 cinematic oddity from schlock producer extraordinaire Ovidio G. Assonitis, director of such deliciously guilty pleasures as Beyond the Door and Tentacles, brings together an extraordinary ensemble cast in a mind-bending tale of a girl and her pet hawk.

At first glance, Katy Collins is just like any other normal 8-year-old girl – but appearances can dangerously deceptive. As it turns out, Katy is the Earthly incarnation of an ancient evil by the name of Sateen – an intergalactic supernatural entity who was vanquished many light years ago. Katy possesses tremendous powers making her capable of great destruction – powers which some are keen to eradicate, and some to harness…

A veritable cult phenomenon thanks to its recent re-discovery, The Visitor combines stunning imagery, incredible set-pieces alongside a truly jaw-dropping cast list which includes John Huston, Mel Ferrer, Shelley Winters and Franco Nero appearing as Jesus!

IAMX feels quite delicate to me. It needs understanding and effort to really see the bigger picture. The live show can do that, it can convince people, but from my internal feeling, it can be uncomfortable.
