NEWS New EP for High Tiny Hairs

New EP for High Tiny Hairs

27th of August 2015, 12:44

Swirling, dreamy pop hooks accentuated with the haunting sounds of a Farfisa organ cloak the sombre and sardonic musings of former Fuck Knights guitarist and Nightinghales front man Ben Bachman in his new project, High Tiny Hairs.

This EP lays bare and showcases Bachman’s stylistic influences, the likes of Alex Chilton, Brian Eno and Syd Barrett, with a short set of self-produced releases.

The songs, bouncing between sixties Baroque pop and the new psychedelic movement of the early eighties, are mesmerisingly elegant and poetically dark, yet quirky, and romantic. The Minneapolis based singer/songwriter evokes a hazy, late night tête-à-tête with his ghosts.

"Ben Bachman is High Tiny Hairs, and I’m kind of taken with this song, off the recent self-titled EP. It’s short, it’s simple, and it has one of those meat and potatoes, could have happened any time in the past 40 years guitar riffs, that just sounds really good when you turn it up, so, let’s do that..."

Discover the shoegazesound of Orange Vision

27th of August 2015, 12:42

'Dark Around the Eyes' is the latest release from Orange Vision, a band firmly in the ascendant having already enjoyed support from Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1 and Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music as well as earning coveted support slots for Superfood and Honeyblood on the NME New Breed Tour.

The four-piece from Oxford, influenced by post punk, glam and shoegaze, produce reverb drenched, melodic pop anthems with a new wave edge.

Formed two years ago when Ed and Matthew bonded over a love of clothes, music and a generally delinquent approach to their depressing surroundings and sapped music scene, they were later joined by Daniel and Jake. The band became a primary focus and what started as a driving growling rock and roll sneer has blossomed into a post punk psychedelic new wave dream.

Edmund Quigley - Lead Vocals/Guitar
Jacob Mott - Backing Vocals/Drums
Matthew Holford - Lead Guitar
Daniel Jones - Bass Guitar

“We were bowled over by their soundcloud track “How You Feel”, which combines new wave guitars with a nifty spoken-word interlude featuring a lost Marc Bolan interview”
Matt Wilkinson, NME

“They have the look and feel of a great 90’s bands like Pulp and Kula Shaker, but with galloping doses of The Horrors and The Cure”

Tony Steele and The Massacre returns with new single

27th of August 2015, 12:40

Liverpool singer/songwriter Tony Steele has returned to music with a new single 'Starting From Scratch', released on September 25th and showcasing a stripped down folk/rock sound.
Session musicians Charlie Landsborough Jnr, Laura Mackinlay, Peter Macparland and Grant Walker complete the line up of his band, The Massacre.

Tony's first band Monkey Steps, a psychedelic Scouse skiffle group, supported Alabama 3 and Pete Doherty. They also gave Catfish and the Bottlemen their first Liverpool gig when the young Welsh band opened for Monkey Steps at Liverpool's legendary Cavern Club.

Tony's lyrics are based on the three years he spent away from music drawing inspiration from the ups and downs that life has thrown at him. His new music was premiered at two gigs in London supporting Zak Starkey's band Penguins Rising and Inder Goldfinger's The Winachi Tribe, and was so well received that he has announced a UK tour, starting with a gig supporting John Power at Liverpool's Kazimier. Tony Steele and The Massacre will also be supporting Cast in Kendal, Alloa, and Paisley as well as headlining gigs in Birmingham, London, and Glasgow. The band will also be supporting John McCullough and the Escorts in Liverpool.

The Winachi Tribe have lifted a second single from their 'Time for Love' EP. 'Plant the Seed' will be released on September 25th on A1M records. The track sees the band collaborating with Julie E Gordon of Happy Mondays.

The Winachi Tribe is a collection of exceptional musicians and producers who have performed and toured with artists as diverse as Ian Brown, Black Grape, Happy Mondays, Massive Attack and The Stereo MCs. They bring together urban swagger, soul and funk to create unique electro-funk grooves; a sonic soul collective who are unrestrained by boundaries or formulas, either musically or culturally.

New single 'Plant the Seed' is featured in a new documentary 'We Own the Dance Floor', which tells the story of the Hacienda and was premiered at this year's Glastonbury Festival. The band will be embarking on a UK tour in October and in the meantime are set to play to the Portsmouth's Victorious Festival on 29th August alongside Basement Jaxx, Tinie Tempah & The Flaming Lips. The 'Time For Love' EP will be launched at Manchester’s Ruby Lounge on 27th August, with special guests, Tigerside, Ruby Tuesday & the Happy Fallen. Tickets available here.

IAMX feels quite delicate to me. It needs understanding and effort to really see the bigger picture. The live show can do that, it can convince people, but from my internal feeling, it can be uncomfortable.

I am often a little frustrated by the complexity of my music, which in turn motivates me to keep composing, hoping that one day I will write a simple song.
