Sacred Bones announces deluxe CD version of David Lynch's Eraserhead score
David Lynch's Eraserhead rests firmly at the top of that canon of American underground culture for which there is no genre. A staple of the dark underbelly of popular cinema that was originally only viewable at arthouse screenings or on the Midnight Movie circuit, Eraserhead is a truly unadulterated offering; and much of its sensation lies beyond the purely visual realm. The stark, dusty black and white images put forth are caked with and submerged in a dense jungle of industrial hums, buzzes, screeches and screams.
Eraserhead is a narrative made up of two intertwined veins: one of bleak and beautiful pictures elegantly painted in gray and black; and one of blankets of sublime, enveloping noise and static, the tinkering of Fats Waller organ rolls echoing in the background.
To lay in the dark and listen to this dizzying succession of blissful noise is a different way to get “lost” in the vast space of then the visuals of the film itself. It’s no stretch to consider this soundtrack an experimental, early industrial masterpiece. Eraserhead’s individual passion and personal tone shines through even in the thickest moments of fierce static, an audio undertaking that took Lynch and sound designer Alan Splet years to perfect. Though Eraserhead’s most famous piece of music is undoubtedly Peter Ivers’ unforgettable, oft-covered haunting ballad “In Heaven,” and the most exciting attribute of this edition of the soundtrack is no doubt its expansion; during the process of transferring the audio tapes, an unreleased recording from Ivers was discovered. It had not been heard since it was originally performed, over three decades ago. After working for years to expose and foster the dark, brooding sounds that exist in the current underground, nothing could make us more proud than to share with our audience this, a new look at one of our most cherished influences; the soundtrack to David Lynch’s Eraserhead.

On 8th October Universal releases Dracula on both DVD and Blu-ray.
Series introduces Dracula as he arrives in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who maintains that he wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. Mannequin Records is elated to present a 12’’ EP with two unreleased 1986 tracks of the mexican New Wave band Casino Shanghai, with a killer analog modular remix by In Aeternam Vale on the B Side.
Asking Laurent Prot to rework Casino Shanghai was more than logic. Permeated by a strong mitteleuropean dark pop atmosphere, here emphasized by the french lyrics (“Le Tombeau D’Edgar Poe” is using a poem by the french writer Stephane Mallarmé), Casino Shanghai were the pulse of Mexico City underground scene of the 80’s. The band was founded by Ulalume, Carlos Robledo and Walter Schmidt. Prior to Casino Shanghai, Ulalume was the lead singer of punk band The Casuals & DenseUndergrowth, and both Carlos and Walter were members of the post punk band Size and the more experimental Decibel.
Their first album “Film” for the Comrock/ WEA label was released in December of 1985.
Casino Shanghai was part of a great cultural change in Mexico and its music scene.

Nadja’s Aidan Baker and Thisquietarmy’s Eric Quach are both prolific sonic alchemists and have collaborated together on several occasions in the past. Now they’ve decided to join forces to create the Hypnodrone Ensemble, teaming up with no less than three drummers, Felipe Salazar (Caudal, Muerte En Pereira), Jérémie Mortier (Alice in the Cities, Lady Shot from a Tree), and Dave Dunnett (Man Meets Bear) to forge some spacey and atmospheric guitar drones over an exciting polyrhythmic drive.
The newly founded ensemble premiered their musical explorations last May at N.K. in Berlin and such magical performance was committed to tape and masterfully mastered by James Plotkin.
Set for release next Monday via Consouling Sounds to coincide with Aidan Baker performance at this year’s Incubate Festival, Hypnodrone Ensemble reveals yet another facet of these two prolific and extremely gifted musicians.
THE FLAMING LIPS have announced details about the track-listing and special guests featured on their upcoming Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band tribute album, With A Little Help From My Fwends, which is due 3rd November on Bella Union in the UK/Europe (28th October in the US on Warner Bros. Records). The band has recorded their own versions of each track on The Beatles’ 1967 classic in their own inimitable style, with help from special friends Miley Cyrus, Moby, My Morning Jacket, J. Mascis, Dr. Dog, Phantogram, Tegan and Sara, Grace Potter, Electric Würms (The Lips side project who recently released their 6-song debut album, Musik, Die Schwer Zu Twerk) and many others.
With A Little Help From My Fwends, is now available for pre-order at all participating retailers. Those who pre-order will receive a pair of instant downloads including “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds,” featuring Miley Cyrus and Moby and “Fixing A Hole” featuring Electric Wurms.
All proceeds from sales of With A Little Help From My Fwends, will be donated to The Bella Foundation, a non-profit organization based in the band’s hometown of Oklahoma City that assists low-income, elderly, or terminally ill pet owners with the cost of veterinary care.
