Seaven Teares’ mostly acoustic sound brings together a number of disparate influences: dark post-Industrial folk (Death In June, Current 93), 1960’s co-ed pop folk groups (Mamas and the Papas, Ian & Sylvia), the drones and textures of modern composition and experimental improvisation, and the cold alien vocal harmonies of Gothic era liturgical music.
The seven slow-burning songs shift between abstract raga-like meditations and straight melodic hooks, set against acoustic guitars, dark synth ambience, vibraphone, bells, and occasional harsh electronics, as well as authentic Medieval pump organ and recorders
Karl Bartos is well-known as one-quarter of the "classic" Kraftwerk line-up. Many of their most influential rhythms and memorable melodies were actually conceived in his home studio.
They would later be used on an unstoppable succession of hits from the Düsseldorf band as they ascended to the lofty heights of popular music culture. As a major contributor to "The Man-Machine" (1978) and "Computer World" (1981) Bartos has had a decisive influence on Kraftwerk's music. Bartos' new album is an audio-visual sensation! Lost for many years, some of his early music has been reconceived and re-contextualised in a thrilling modern setting. Here's the story: during Kraftwerk's heyday Karl Bartos wrote – off the record – a secret acoustic diary. Based on his musical jottings – rhythms, riffs, hooks, sounds, chords and melodies – this is what he has come up with today: twelve brand new, exciting, timeless songs.
Concert in AB, Brussels on the 3rd of June 2013
Bauhaus – established in ’78 – has been around for 35 years. Yes, you can feel it coming... that's certainly something worth celebrating. This gothic-rock/post-punk once called itself Bauhaus 1919 as a reference to the architectural style of that period that also inspired the design of their band logo.
Their debut single ‘Bela Lugosi’s Dead’ from ’79 was an instant classic. Just like the singles that followed: ‘Dark Entries’ and the T-Rex derived ‘Telegram Sam’. Aside from infallible singles like ‘Passion Of Lovers’ and ‘She’s In Parties’, their reconstructed version of Bowie’s ‘Ziggy Stardust’ was the one to become their greatest hit.
Before splitting up in ’83, Bauhaus provided the world with four albums that are considered classics. MGMT even covered them recently and the fabulous Nine Inch Nails took them along on tour in ’06 too.
The band has had two reunions in the meantime (in ’98 and ’05) during which they dropped by the AB in ’06 and were brilliant live. In ’08 they recorded another album, thereby marking the beginning of the end of the band. This time enigmatic frontman Peter Murphy will be doing the honours and browsing 35 years of Bauhaus with a set full of classics!
