AT WAR WITH THE GODS tells the story of the first 25 years of The Mission, from the speed-fuelled beginnings in Leeds to the tour which in 2011 saw the band reform and tread the boards of some of the most important venues in the world once again.
During the 1980s, in a music landscape that was learning to build new trends from the rubble left by the punk storm, The United Kingdom confirmed its role as an inexhaustible source of artists of every kind. In the north of the country, far away from the din of a metropolis turned into a Mecca for millions of visiting rock music lovers, new ways of interpreting new-wave and post-punk developed, and bands were formed which would thoroughly embody them. Here, between Bristol, Liverpool and Leeds, began the musical mission of guitarist and singer Wayne Hussey; a story painted in the romantic hues of gothic rock and which crossed paths with the exploits of Led Zeppelin, U2, The Cure e The Cult, rich with prestigious achievements as well as tumultuous chapters.
Alex Daniele, lifelong Mission fan and fairly well-known promoter, DJ and independent music critic in Italy, devoted several years to completing ‘At War With The Gods’, exchanging numerous emails with Wayne Hussey and all the other musicians who over the last quarter of a century have been part of the band, as well as producers, managers, roadies, various “missionaries” scattered across the world, and other fans – from Craig Adams to Simon Hinkler, from Mark Gemini Thwaite to producer Tim Palmer, from Miles Hunt to Billy Duffy, from Julianne Regan to Mike Kelly…
Along with the history of the band and a detailed breakdown of the individual careers of its members, as in a documentary, the book includes first-hand accounts from its protagonists and a fascinating set of photographs taken from Wayne Hussey’s private collection and the author’s own archives.
Land Observations (aka the musician and artist, James Brooks) has unveiled the video for ‘On Leaving The Kingdom For The Well-Tempered Continent’, taken from his forthcoming album, The Grand Tour, out on 28 July 2014.
‘On Leaving The Kingdom For The Well-Tempered Continent’ opens the album and addresses the route from London, through the Kentish countryside on the Old Dover Road, towards the port and crossing the channel to Northern France.
The Grand Tour is the follow up to 2012’s critically acclaimed debut album, Roman Roads IV-XI. Where that was concerned with the roads of communication and conquest that stretched across the former Roman Empire and Republic, the new album creates an imaginary travelogue through Western, Central and Southern Europe with reference to the historic Grand Tour, a traditional rite of passage for wealthy University graduates, finding popularity in the 18th century.
On The Grand Tour, the landscape gives inspiration to the speed, pace and momentum of the journey – the swift ‘Flatlands And The Flemish Roads’ mirroring the horizontal unimpeded journey of the lowlands, slowing into ‘From The Heights Of The Simpson Pass’ as we climb up one of the highest mountain routes in the Swiss Alps; sweeping down and across to the majestic ‘Nice To Turin’ and meandering the elegant Strasses of Vienna, with its ornate, baroque architecture and streets infused with its musical history on ‘Ode To Viennese Streets’.
The record's The Grand Tour continues through its itinerary to the cities of Venice, Florence, Rome before finally heading back. On ‘Return To Ravenna’, a beginning and an end is at once signalled. It’s the end of the tour, and the beginning of the journey home - a track with an intentional reference to Land Observations’ debut, album, where Brooks celebrated ‘Via Flaminia’, the Roman road between Rome and Ravenna, once a major city in classical culture.
As such, the album is not concerned with arrival, its concern is with the journey, the experiences, the momentum of travel through re-imagining a grand tour.
For the The Grand Tour’s artwork James Brooks has made a series of postcard drawings which utilise various found tourist and holiday postcards. Directly responding to each postcard's unique design layout, he has produced a series of abstract, geometric drawings of only their specific surface areas and design skeleton.
Recently Brooks guested on Simon Fisher Turner’s Ivor Novello Award winning score for the BFI restoration of The Epic Of Everest (dir. Captain John Noel, 1924) and has performed the score live at the London Film Festival world premiere, Trento Film Festival in Italy and the Shanghai International Film Festival.

Paranoia Inducta are from Poland. This is what they say about themselves.
PARANOIA INDUCTA - MAZE OF DEATH - this is the latest album of well known and valued for many years musical project. This is the continuation of the former album "Evil Angel" which gained great acceptance of listeners and reviewers. The "Maze of Death" is a very concept album which could be described in just three words: loneliness, fear and death ! The title - maze of death determines a metaphor of human life which is wandered in completely loneliness, blindfolded in completely darkness.
We explore a lot of empty and blind underpasses which were often just an illusion and even hope for many of us. But the truth is that they turned out to be just an illusion which does not lead anywhere and the only outgoing is just death!
This album contains over 50 minutes of cold and dark music. It is absolutely perfectly edited, painted digipack, size A-5, decorated with unique pictures of one of a kind AMELIA ! Maze of Death is released in cooperation, by two Polish labels: Old Temple and Doomsday Factory.
