Shit Robot announces new LP

19th of December 2013, 18:10

Shit Robot aka Marcus Lambkin will release his second album, ‘We Got A Love’ on 17th March 2014 on LP, CD and download. The nine-track album includes the killer recent singles, ‘Feels Real’ and ‘We Got A Love’.

The ‘We Got A Love’ album was recorded in Germany and New York, and features an array of guests, including DFA’s Nancy Whang, Museum of Love and Luke Jenner, plus comedian Reggie Watts, hip- house hero Lidell Townsell and Australian singer Holly Backler.

It wasn’t, you’ll be pleased to hear, a difficult second album. “It wasn’t as tricky as I thought it was going to be,” said Lambkin. “I think my first record was pretty special because there was a lot of lucky coincidences and a lot of being in the right place at the right time, so I didn’t try to repeat it. I just tricked my brain into just making stuff and not trying to follow up the first.”

The new album’s guest list is as strong as 2010’s debut, ‘From The Cradle To The Rave’, something that pleases Lambkin. “For the guests on the record, it’s a mix of just reaching out to some people that I admire and thought might make a good collaboration.

“One of the greatest things about making this record was getting to work with Lidell Townsell. He’s such a great and positive guy. I’ve been a big fan for the longest time. ‘Nu-Nu’ was a huge record for me and all my friends back in ’92. He doesn’t usually sing on other people’s records, so this was a huge honor for me.

“With Reggie (who appears farewell concert for LCD really didn’t expect to on two LP cuts), I first met him at the at MSG, so I knew he could sing, but I get what he delivered. And I think he really delivered. The guy is a wizard.

“And then there are some friends that we’ve been talking about doing something together for a while like Luke and Pat and DJ (Museum Of Love.)”

The LP’s distinctive artwork was created in collaboration with Irish graffiti artist, Maser. “I picked Maser for the artwork because i’m a big fan of his work, but also because he’s Irish and he does a lot of great work in and for Dublin. His pieces are all over the city and they are always positive and a breath of fresh air for a city that’s been going through some tough times.”

The Robot has announced a string of DJ dates in support of the record, with further dates and additional live The Shit Robot Show dates to follow.

No Future for Deathday

18th of December 2013, 17:27

eathday (formerly Deathday Party) is a Los Angeles based Experimental Post-punk band, formed in Santa Ana, California in 2008 by brothers Alex Guillén and Giovanni Guillén. Previous incarnations of the group can be traced back to Santa Ana's Koo's scene of the late 1990's. While the title-track is an unreleased one, instead "Dropped Into Obscurity" was already included in the Downwards compilation "Click Heels" alongside with Tropic Of Cancer, Silent Servant, The KVB. On the B side Mannequin asked to the synth-master Legowelt to remix After Dark".

Seldom has the post-punk revival seemed as urgent as with Deathday, who match their guitar driven dirges with esoteric industrial soundscapes and tape manipulation. Their music is often as bleak as it is violent, with low end cacophony bludgeoning the listener into submission. Lyrically, Deathday often invoke the violent culture hidden beneath the media, as well as explore the crippling aftershocks of isolation and the mysticism of the occult.

Comparisons, for those who prefer them, could easily be made to the likes of Throbbing Gristle and Suicide’s uncompromising attitude and primal infrastructure, but the band has equal roots in forgotten post-punk favorites such as Nagamatzu, Venus In Furs, and Joy of Life, creating a powerful hybrid exploring the darkest and most hypnotic corners of the spectrum.

Known as Deathday Party until 2011, the band’s self-titled cassette, released in early 2012, exists as a cold snapshot of their formative material, while both “After Dark” and “Dropped Into Obscurity,” released on Mannequin’s The End of Civilaztion and Downward’s So Click Heels compilations respectively, offer a club-friendly alternative. While neither track compromises the band’s dark overtones, these tracks are ripe for the dance floor, having garnered heavy play in LA, New York, and Berlin especially.
