What is the 'secret project' of Clan Of Xymox?

09th of April 2012, 14:59

Ronny Moorings, founder of Clan Of Xymox, has a 'secret project'! At the REWIND festival in Ghent, he told Peek-a-boo that the band is "working on a new album, which will not be a typical album. It's a surprise so I don't want to say anything more. It will be something that I or Clan Of Xymox have never done before..." We suspect that this strange release will take place on Ronny Moorings's Birthday, 20th of May 2012... Stay tuned!

In the short interview, Ronny also explained that he first decided to cover "Heroes" from David Bowie when he participated to the anniversary show at WGT in Leipzig. He recorded the song to have a backing track for the performance and the result was so good that he decided to release the song and to include it in concert setlists.

Watch the video of the interview made before their show in Ghent, followed by a live video of "A Day".

At the REWIND festival in Ghent, Rodney Orpheus, founder of Cassandra Complex, told Peek-a-boo that the band is currently recording a new album, which should be released by the end of the year. The working title is "The Constructivist's Nightmare" and it sounds "really great so far".

For the 25th anniversary of the band, Cassandra Complex will also release remastered versions of "Grenade" and "Theomania", two major early albums. According to Orpheus, "the remasters sound incredible, much more powerful". By the way, "Theomania" was recorded in Belgium...

Chameleons Vox: Exclusive greetings from Mark Burgess, live video and new material !

07th of April 2012, 19:50

Chameleons Vox were one of the headliners of the first day of the REWIND Festival in Ghent on 6th April. Mark Burgess, founder of the Chameleons, gave a short interview to Peek-a-boo backstage after the show, in which he gives his Easter greetings to the readers of Peek-a-boo in a very funny way and comments his live performance (see video below).

Note that Chameleons Vox will be releasing a remastered double vinyl edition of their legendary LP "Script Of The Bridge" in the course of April. This edition has been remastered by Guy Massey, who was in charge of the remastered editions of The Beatles Discography. The sound recording of the original pressing had to be compressed due to the running time (almost an hour) but this new edition will not have such limitation as it will be released as a double vinyl, with 3 songs per side.

The band has also been in the studio recording new material. Yes, we are going to get new album with the current lineup (Mark Burgess, John Lever, Chris Oliver, Ray Bowles, and Neil Dwerryhouse).

Eagle Vision to release Pink Floyd - 'The Story Of Wish You Were Here'

06th of April 2012, 09:45

Eagle Rock Entertainment are proud to announce the simultaneous release on 25 June 2012 of Pink Floyd “The Story Of Wish You Were Here” on DVD and Blu-ray [Cat. No. EREDV932 and ERBRD5152 respectively]. This is the authorised story of the album made with the full involvement and approval of the members of Pink Floyd.

“Wish You Were Here”, released in September 1975, was the follow up album to the globally successful “The Dark Side Of The Moon” and is cited by many fans, as well as band members Richard Wright and David Gilmour, as their favourite Pink Floyd album. On release it went straight to Number One in both the UK and the US and topped the charts in many other countries around the world. This programme tells the story of the making of this landmark release through new interviews with Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason and archive interviews with the late Richard Wright. Also featured are sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson, guest vocalist Roy Harper, front cover “burning man” Ronnie Rondell and others involved in the creation of the album. In addition, original recording engineer Brian Humphries revisits the master tapes at Abbey Road Studios to illustrate aspects of the songs’ construction.

The band members discuss the album’s themes of absence, the greed of the music business and former band member Syd Barrett, who is famously celebrated in “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”, which both opens and closes the album. The programme also covers the unexpected visit Barrett paid to Abbey Road during the recording, the difficulties of the early recording sessions and how the decision to split “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” into two sections was the catalyst for the album’s successful completion.

The DVD and Blu-ray releases contain additional bonus material not featured in the TV broadcast version, including further interviews with Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason plus Roger Waters and David Gilmour performing excerpts from the “Wish You Were Here” album.

“The Story Of Wish You Were Here” is a fascinating document and fitting tribute to Pink Floyd’s outstanding achievement in the creation of this masterpiece.

Jim Marshall, the creator of the famous Marshall amps, is dead

05th of April 2012, 13:17

We have just heard about the passing of Jim Marshall. Jim’s ascent into the history books as ‘the Father of Loud’ and the man responsible for ‘the Sound of Rock’ is a true rags-to-riches tale. Cruelly robbed of his youth by tubercular bones, Jim rose to become one of the four forefathers responsible for creating the tools that allowed rock guitar as we know and love it today to be born.

From 1960, Marshall owned a moderately successful music store in Hanwell selling drums and then branching out into guitars. His many guitar playing customers (including Ritchie Blackmore, Jim Sullivan and Pete Townshend) spoke of the need for a particular kind of amplifier and Marshall saw the opportunity. He recruited an 18-year-old electronics apprentice, Dudley Craven, who was previously working for EMI and, with his help, began producing prototype amplifiers, resulting in the foundation of Marshall Amplification, in 1962. The beginning of a true legend.

Rest in Peace, Jim.
