Jeff & Jane Hudson + Starter back available on Dark Entries Records

21st of June 2011, 15:48

Two brand records will be soon out on Dark Entries.

The first album is a re-issue of the debut album Flesh by Jeff & Jane Hudson.

This will be expanded with an extra LP of singles and EP material. Jeff & Jane Hudson are a husband/wife duo from Boston who got their start in the art punk band The Rentals in 1977.

Their first single No Clubs was released in late 1980 and showcased a lo-fi avant garde all synthesizer band.

The World Trade EP came next in 1981, expanding their brand of post-nuclear electronic pop. Their vocals qualities were distinct; Jeff quivery and drug-addled while Jane more detached and icy.

The duo reached their pinnacle with 1982′s seminal Flesh.Perhaps one of the United States biggest achievements in the entire "synth" movement of the 80s. The music was electro-pop employing early Roland synths and the TR808 drum machine.

Completing the discography is the Special World 7″ released in 1983 before the band emigrated back to Boston and stopped recording and performing.

This deluxe edition has been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkerley directly from the original master tapes.

LP 1 is the Flesh LP and LP 2 features the No Clubs and Special World singles plus the World Trade EP.

Each double LP set comes in a gatefold sleeve with unreleased photos, original artwork and a lyrics sheet.

All 2xLPs come with a free digital download card!

Another new one is the reissue of Starter.

Starter was a minimal electronic/synthpop group from Switzerland, formed in 1980 by vocalist and fashion designer Francis Foss, Claudine Chirac (from fellow Swiss Wave group Grauzone and Jet Harbour. Originally the band also included Stephan Eicher who co-wrote two songs but departed before the band recorded their debut album.

STARTER began in the city of Bern when Francis, Claudine and Jet decided to create their own brand of New Wave music inspired by Gary Numan and Kraftwerk. They released their debut, self-titled album Starter in the summer of 1981, making this summer the 30th anniversary of this long out-of-print and extremely hard to find LP!

Using early analog Roland and Korg synthesizers, STARTER’S music seamlessly merges wistful electronics from Germany’s Neue Deutsche Welle movement and powerful vocal stylings from French chanson.

The next few Dark Entries Records releases are in the works!

Parade Ground – The Golden Years – LP
System Liliputt – Harpa LP
Europa – La Ultima Emocion! LP
Vita Noctis – Against the Rule 2xLP (co-release with Daft Records)

Erasure are back with a new album

21st of June 2011, 13:30

Synthpop pioneers Erasure are back with Tomorrow’s World, the band’s first album in more than four years.

The new album is releases in autumn 2011 and is produced by one of the dance scene’s most exciting new talents, Frankmusik.

Tomorrow’s World was written in New York, London, and at Vince Clarke’s cabin studio in Maine following a short break, which found Andy Bell recording and releasing his second solo album Non Stop, and Vince Clarke reuniting with former Yazoo partner Alison Moyet for a recent tour.

It was recorded in Maine, London and Los Angeles between January and June 2011, with Vince using his vintage collection of analog synths for the final touch. The end result is a collection of electronic songs that sound totally contemporary and classic at the same time. All songs are written by Bell and Clarke.

After Erasure’s return to the stage for Short Circuit presents Mute at the Roundhouse, a one-off performance which saw Vince Clarke perform with very special guests Alison Moyet and Feargal Sharkey, Erasure recently embarked on their Total Pop! Tour a series of dates for summer 2011 playing their hits as part of Forestry Commission Live Music, where acts perform in spectacular woodland locations across the country.

The band have also confirmed a show at Guilfest on 17 July and a US tour.

Robert Smith goes electronic

20th of June 2011, 18:57

Robert Smith goes electronic, or something like that as he teamed up with The Japanese Popstars, an electronic band from Derry, Northern Ireland.

The song is named "Take forever" and if someone says it's the best thing he did in ages, what can we add to this?

Coldwaveband Dream Affair sign on Avant! Records

20th of June 2011, 18:15

Avant! Records is very proud to introduce their new release: *"Endless Days"* the debut album by the Brooklyn-based cold wave group *DREAM AFFAIR*

Frontman Hayden Payne began Dream Affair in Philadelphia in 2009 as a guitar-based outlet to his previous band Void Vision. It has since relocated
to the industrial outskirts of Brooklyn, New York and expanded its lineup.
Since the release of their sold-out EP All I Want last fall, the band has expanded their initial references of UK post-punk and French cold wave to
incorporate sounds of Wax Trax industrial and 4AD shoegaze.

Comparisons have also been made with bands such as The Cure and Depeche Mode. It is no coincidence that this evolution of Dream Affair?s sound corresponds with the
addition of Abby Echiverri (synths/vocals) and Frank Deserto (bass).

"Endless Days" is out June 27 on AVANT! as LP and CD, both limited editions.

Dream Affair is also a live act that is not to be missed; the band has secured several prominent gigs, including appearances at the infamous Wierd
Records party in New York City and opening slots for Mark Burgess of The Chameleons.

An EU tour is about to start, these the dates:

July 2 at Elfer, Frankfurt
July 8 at King Kong Klub, Berlin
July 12 at Fluc, Vienna
July 16 at The Slaughterhouse, Berlin
July 22 at La Mécanique Ondulatoire, Paris
July 23 at Swamp Club, Freiburg
August 14 at Part Time Punks / The Echo, Los Angeles
August 17 at Wierd Records / Home Sweet Home, New York
