Michael Giacchino Best Film Composer of the year at 15th World Soundtrack Awards
Best Original Film Score of the Year goes to Antonio Sanchez's music for 'Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)'
The World Soundtrack Academy announced the winners of the 15th World Soundtrack Awards, the closing event of the 42nd Film Fest Gent, on the evening of Saturday 24 October at Kuipke in Ghent.
This year’s Best Original Song written directly for a Film is ‘The Apology Song' from 'The Book of Life’, with music by Gustavo Santaolalla, lyrics by Paul Williams and performed by Diego Luna. Discovery of the year 2015 also goes to Antonio Sanchez for ‘Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)’. The Sabam Award for Best Young Composer goes to Peer Kleinschmidt and John Paesano's music for ‘The Maze Runner’ won the Public Choice Award.
After the annual presentation of the prestigious film music prizes, Brussels Philharmonic and the Flemish Radio Choir, conducted by Dirk Brossé, played a striking selection from the extensive oeuvre of the guest of honour, Alan Silvestri. He composed the score for 'The Walk', that had it's worldpremiere at the concert. The film music by Discovery of 2015 Daniel Pemberton, with the premiere of the score for 'Steve Jobs' was also given a well-deserved place in the concert, as was the music of Lifetime Achievement Award winner Patrick Doyle with the premiere of the music for 'Cinderella'.

After paying homage to Walter Gropius’ dream, written down in his 1919 Bauhaus Manifesto, Belgium’s electronic act Metroland is about to close their triadic series with the release of a new double EP: “Re-design” and “Re-Design (Spacious Edition)” which is the third and final single release from their latest 3CD album “Triadic Ballet” (after the double EPs “Zeppelin” and “The Manifesto”) which is available here.
The 2 different download EPs each hold 3 songs. The regular edition comes with an exclusive 7inch remake of “Design” plus a total make-over by Belgian musician Polynomiq and the exclusive B-side track “Vers La Côte D’azur”.
The second EP – the Spacious Edition – comes with remixes by Jean-Marc Lederman, better known for his work with The Weathermen (and several other projects), and Jauzas The Shining. Add to that a Notstandskomitee remix of “Vers La Côte D’azur”.
The 2 EPs are available for download from today on via Bandcamp, iTunes etc and for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.
