Plastikstrom is a German duo founded by Jürgen Schips and Matthias Günzler. Previously involved in a gothic rock band, they eventually chose to continue along a more electro-oriented path with Plastikstrom. It took years—and even a hiatus—before they released their official debut album Beton Gegen Angst, issued in their home country by Young And Cold Records.

Their second release, Eskalation, followed in a similar vein. Now, in April 2026, their third full-length album, InTakt, is set to arrive.

Just three weeks ago, the duo set the dancefloor ablaze at Belgium’s “4 Donkere Tijden” event in Kortrijk. The ever-friendly Germans already showcased a few new tracks there, earning an enthusiastic response—dancing and stomping echoed through the solid concrete venue of De Verlichte Geest.

So, anticipation for this new release is high—and it takes no more than ten seconds to hear that Plastikstrom continue to walk their familiar path. And that’s absolutely no bad thing. The duo knows damn well how to craft hard-hitting, danceable EBM. InTakt may not lean into old-school territory, but they skillfully fuse sharp rhythms and pounding drum sounds into tracks carved from solid steel.

One of their greatest strengths is their ability to take your breath away with relentless, uptempo stompers. With Keine Ahnung, they drop an immediate bombshell. It’s remarkable how they weave elements from various strands of electro into high-level dancefloor killers. The forceful vocal delivery certainly plays its part.

Wir Sind Mehr! rumbles past like an unstoppable tank rolling over cobblestones, before halting at Städtekrieg. Or rather—briefly pausing, as things quickly escalate into another uptempo EBM crusher of the kind they’ve delivered so often. Aggressive and gripping throughout, with vocals declaimed at a rapid-fire pace reminiscent of Oswald Henke of Goethes Erben—verbal storms where you can feel the emotion, the anger, the intensity.

Just when you think you’ve endured the peak—and “endured” here in the most positive sense—you’re proven wrong. Fahne Im Wind hits like a storm. A hurricane of beats, with a melody torn from the ground and hurled miles away into a desolate landscape. The force tearing through the track is devastating. Plastikstrom rages—and that’s exactly what they excel at.

And then, unexpectedly, they nod back to their gothic rock roots. Not entirely, but edging into post-punk territory with Analog, where guitars take on a prominent role. Alongside driving drum beats and old-school analog synth lines, they carve their way through the sound, anchored by a solid bassline.

What more is there to say? Not much new—yet everything essential. Plastikstrom isn’t just good; they are exceptionally powerful, with a unique sound that is overwhelming and musically unmatched.

This third album hits just as hard, knocking you off your feet without mercy. The aggression and dark atmosphere that define it are delivered with even greater bravura in a live setting. I’ve been a fan since day one, and this album only cements their status within the EBM landscape. Hard, relentless, and utterly convincing on every level. A top-tier album.

Plastikstrom is een Duits duo, opgericht door Jürgen Schips en Matthias Günzler. Ze waren eerder betrokken bij een gothic-rockband, maar besloten uiteindelijk verder te gaan met het elektro-georiënteerde Plastikstrom. Het duurde jaren en een pauze voordat ze hun officiële debuutalbum Beton Gegen Angst uitbrachten. Het album werd in hun thuisland uitgebracht door Young And Cold Records. Hun tweede was van hetzelfde allooi: Eskalation. Nu, in april 2026, komt hun derde langspeler uit: InTakt.

De heren speelden drie weken terug nog ten dans op het Belgische ‘4 Donkere Tijden’-feestje in Kortrijk. De immer sympathieke Duitsers lieten daar al een paar nieuwe songs horen. Het publiek bedankte hen daarvoor met uitbundig gedans en gestamp in de robuuste betonnen zaal van De Verlichte Geest (Kortrijk, Belgium).

Benieuwd dus naar de nieuwe worp. En je hebt maar tien seconden nodig om te horen dat Plastikstrom de gekende paden verder bewandelt. En daar is niets mis mee, want het duo wéét verdomd goed hoe dansbare, stevige EBM klinkt. Ook op InTakt horen we geen oldschool, en toch weten de heren snedige ritmes en stompende drumsounds te combineren tot heel stevig uit het hout gesneden songs.

Waar het duo ook in uitblinkt, is je de adem ontnemen met uptempo meestampers zonder weerga. Met Keine Ahnungsplijten ze al zo’n bommetje in je maag. Ongelooflijk hoe ze fragmenten uit diverse electro-strekkingen in elkaar vlechten tot dancefloorkillers van heel hoog niveau. De vocale uithalen dragen daartoe zéker bij.

Wir Sind Mehr! dreunt onverstoorbaar en denderend als een tank over een kasseiweg voorbij. Ze houden halt bij Städtekrieg. Hoewel… de situatie escaleert in een uptempo EBM-kraker van het niveau zoals de heren er al vele afleverden. Agressief en pakkend over de gehele lijn, aan een tempo teksten declamerend zoals Oswald Henke dat kan bij zijn Goethes Erben. Woordenstormen waar je de emotie, woede en kwaadheid voelt.

Als je dacht het ergste wel gehad te hebben – en lees “ergste” hier in de meest positief denkbare zin – dan kom je van een kale reis thuis. Fahne Im Wind voel je waaien. Het is een orkaan van beats, een melodie die door het onweer van de grond wordt gerukt en kilometers verder landt op een onherbergzaam stuk land. Verwoestend is de wind die door de song raast. Plastikstrom raast. En daar zijn ze steengoed in.

En je zou het niet verwachten, maar ze duiken terug in hun gothic-rockverleden. Niet helemaal, wel richting postpunk met Annalog. Gitaren krijgen een robuuste rol. Naast de drumbeats en oldschool analoge synthlijn boren ze zich een weg doorheen de sound, met een baslijn als ruggengraat.

Wat kan ik verder nog zeggen? Weinig nieuws. Wat ik wél kan zeggen: Plastikstrom is niet gewoon goed. Plastikstrom is weergaloos sterk, heeft een unieke sound, is overdonderend en muzikaal onovertroffen. Ook dit derde album slaat je genadeloos achterover. De agressie en donkere sfeer die ook dit album typeert, brengen ze bovendien met nog méér bravoure live. Ik ben fan vanaf dag één, en dit album verstevigt hun status in het EBM-landschap. Ze zijn stevig, meedogenloos. Ze bevestigen op alle vlakken hun kunde. Topalbum!
