From the very first notes of opener Sintez to the final groaning breath of Defekt, this album lashes out wildly.

Sintez immediately sets the tone with a salvo of beats and a crushing bassline that endlessly steamrolls everything flat. The monotone rhythms leave you completely battered.

Think this is already “hard enough”? Then you’d better hold on tight to some trees with roots deep in the ground, because Labirint kicks things into an even higher gear. The synths carry a delightful melody, while the drum machines seem to be smoking from exhaustion. A little further into the album, Vihod lands another gut punch – brutal and merciless.

Oldschool EBM to the bone: that’s Vertikal. Gloriously pounding, at times almost unbearably slow, yet never losing its aggressive undertone. Blokkontroll has listened carefully to the founding bands, but cooks up their own recipe with haute cuisine flair. This is a true delicacy for connoisseurs.

Of the seven tracks on this album, not a single one falls short. Each one drags you mercilessly into the depths.

Zakat might fool you on first listen into thinking your record player is accidentally set to 45 rpm. Wrong thought. That’s just how fierce and intense it can get. The album then leads us to the exit with Defekt: a classic EBM floor-stomper that once again commands respect.

With Blokkontroll, Oraculo Records clearly has a golden treasure on its hands. Rush to their Bandcamp, let yourself be overwhelmed, and quickly grab one of the 300 vinyl copies.

In Oekraïne heerst jammer genoeg oorlog. Een oorlog die vele onnodige doden eist. En toch wordt er ook nog muziek gemaakt. Stevige muziek. Blokkontroll klinkt als EBM-oorlog – maar dan van de genietbare soort. De darkbeats razen op ultrasone snelheid voorbij, allesvernietigend. Het tempo is onnavolgbaar, maar tegelijk onweerstaanbaar. Oldschool EBM aan een verschroeiend tempo.

Van de eerste klanken van opener Sintez tot de allerlaatste kreunende zucht van Defekt: dit album schopt wild om zich heen.

Sintez zet meteen de toon met een salvo aan beats en een allesverpletterende baslijn die eindeloos blijft doorbeuken. De monotone ritmes slaan je murw.

Denk je dat dit al “stevig genoeg” is? Hou je dan maar vast aan bomen met wortels tot diep in de aarde, want Labirintschakelt nog een versnelling hoger. De synths dragen een zalige melodie, terwijl de drumcomputers lijken te roken van inspanning. Even later krijgen we met Vihod opnieuw een uppercut in de maag – snoeihard.

Oldschool EBM tot op het bot: dat is Vertikal. Heerlijk stompend en bij momenten tergend traag, zonder ook maar een greintje agressie te verliezen. Blokkontroll heeft goed geluisterd naar de oerbands, maar kookt er een eigen gerecht mee – met haute cuisine-allures. Dit is fijnproeverskost.

Van de zeven nummers die dit album telt, valt er geen enkel uit de toon. Elk nummer sleurt je meedogenloos mee de diepte in.

Zakat doet je bij een eerste luisterbeurt vermoeden dat je platenspeler per ongeluk op 45 toeren staat. Fout gedacht. Zo stevig, zo fel kan het dus zijn. Naar de uitgang worden we geleid door Defekt: een klassieke EBM-meestamper om (alweer) u tegen te zeggen.
