Two dark superpowers together on tour. A match made in heaven: Blutengel and Hocico were supposed to embark on their spring 2020 Living The Darkness Tour. Given the corona crisis is keeping the world under its spell, both bands joined forces to give fans at least something in wait for their pending live performances. The musical knowledge, strength and expertise were combined and resulted in the single ‘Obscured’. Rasco (Hocico) and Pohl (Blutengel) wrote the lyrics and arrangements.
How does it sound? Well, very solid, danceable and ecstatic. What else is to be expected, knowing that this has sprung from some of the most genius brains within the danceable regions of the “gothic” music culture. The characteristics of both are very recognizable. The very strong dark electro with brutal vocals that characterizes Hocico’s sound, and the influence of Pohl and his female companion Ulrike, who give it all that typical delicious dark-pop Blutengel touch.
With this release these bands offer humanity a dance on the lockdown parties. Because in addition to the original version of ‘Obscured’, we get a whole array of remixes: A hair-raising club version by Hocico. Overwhelming and with kick-ass basses. Do we mind? No! Then the ‘Into The Void’ version of Blutengel, which at first seems a bit more relaxed, but that won't take long. Things are going strong soon after the smooth start.
Also Rasco himself makes a contribution with a remix by his soloproject Dulce Liquido. The subtitle ‘Dance Version’ covers it completely! Heavy humming beats at a hellish tempo are upon you. The last group to delight us with a remix are the people of S.I.T.D.
One thing is clear, in anticipation of the tour and seeing the bands perform live on stage, this is a good, strong collaboration and a great single!

Twee donkere superkrachten samen op tour. Een match made in heaven: Blutengel en Hocico zouden het waarmaken op de Living The Darkness Tour. Gezien de coronacrisis die de wereld in haar ban houdt voorjaar 2020, sloegen de twee bands de handen in elkaar om de fans iets te geven in afwachting van de live optredens. De muzikale kennis, kracht en kunde werden gebundeld. Resultaat: the single Obscured. Rasco (Hocico) en Pohl stonden garant voor de tekst en het arrangement.
Hoe dat klinkt: heel solide, dansbaar en extatisch. Wat anders valt ook te verwachten, wetende dat dit ontsproten is uit toch wel geniale breinen binnen de dansbare regionen der ‘gothic’. En de stempels zijn herkenbaar. Heel stevige dark electro die Hocico typeert, met brute(re) vocalen. En dan de invloed van Pohl en zijn vrouwelijke kompaan Ulrike, die het een typische Blutengel-toets geven, met hun lekkere dark pop.
Beide groepen samen schenken de mensheid in lockdown een dansparty. Want naast het origineel krijgen we een palet aan remixes: een clubversie van de hand van Hocico, waarbij je haar recht overeind komt te staan. Is het niet door overweldigd te zijn, dan wel door de stevige bassen. Anyone who cares? En dan de Into The Void-versie van Blutengel. In aanvang lijkt het wat gezapiger, maar dat duurt niet lang. Het gaat er stevig aan toe na het gezapig op gang trekken.
Rasco met zijn project Dulce Liquido doet ook een duit in het zakje. Zijn dark Dance Version dekt met die naam de volledige lading. Zwaar stoempende beats aan een hels tempo zijn ons deel. Het laatste gezelschap dat ons verblijdt met een remix, zijn de lieden van S.I.T.D.
Eén ding is zeker: in afwachting van de tour en het zien van de bands ergens live op een podium, is dit een goede, stevige single in een mooie samenwerking.
