I probably don't have to introduce this perverse daughter to you, this “BDSM for Satisfaction” is the 7th album of the eccentric diva Aranea Peel (Anna Pehlitz at the population service) who has never made a secret of her (sexual) preferences. In the meantime, the lady has been around for almost 15 years and musically she follows her own electronic, theatrical course. This is no different on this richly filled (15 songs) “BDSM for Satisfaction”. Fetishism as a theme but also existential fear, escapism in BDSM, sex and drugs, not without some humor and cynicism because that is also Grausame Töchter.
Last year you were introduced to the compilation “Werkschau” by this wild lady, which collected the best of the first six albums, read the Dark Entries review here. But at the end of 2023 it will be time again for a completely new chapter of electro stimuli embellished with influences from cabaret, pop, techno, industrial and more. It was never different, although I would like to say that this “BDSM for Satisfaction” is perhaps the richest disc in influences ever brought out of the play cellar by Aranea Peel and her kindred spirits.
The title track is an entertaining, almost cheerful song, as if BDSM has no dark side, but simply puts a smile on the face. You also feel very little about “Schmerz” and a bare techno whip seems to drive the song until the guitars start rocking in time. Of course there are also other songs, such as the almost crooner “Duelo En México”, which was played as a single, with a bit of fantasy Ennio Morricone who got lost in a 'dark room' while making a western. Well behaved according to Grausame Töchter standards. But the animalistic, perverse blues in “Meine Drogue Heist Sex” or the theatrical Nina Hagen in “Ich Will Dich Leiden Sehen” make up for some things.
Lords Of Acid are featured in the techno outing called “Folterkeller”, the compelling and passionate “Schnabel Zu” is actually a pretty nice pop song underneath and we will soon hear more of “Ich Hau Drauf” on the better dance floors. Annika no longer takes drugs, or so you would think, but has become a movie star here in “Annika wird Filmstar” and plays “Katz Und Maus” until she spits out the subversive synth wave like a pellet. “Norden, Süden, Osten, Westen” is some power noise pounding in the brain, blows that arrive, as if the spanking comes from the music, atonal but always in rhythm, with the occasional pause button.
I could go on and on, “BDSM for Satisfaction” is a typical Grausame Töchter album in terms of theme and musically. Although it may be a little less purely electronic than I was previously used to from this daughter, Grausame Töchter has always been much more than electro. A little more Oberer Totpunkt perhaps and a little less older Die Form. But still special. Fans will be satisfied with or without BDSM, others, well I doubt whether they will keep hanging on Aranea Peel's lips, musically. This “BDSM for Satisfaction” is pure, straightforward Grausame Töchter, nothing more, nothing less!
