It was not easy to decipher the name of the band and the songs on the cover. They are namely in phonetic script. Fortunately, there is Spotify, where everything is clearly written. This band is a solo/side project of Gaëtan Vandewoude, who is also part of Isbells. You notice it on this album, it is somewhat similar. In particular the smooth and nicely detailed pop songs, sung by Gaëtan. His rather soft voice leaves a mark on the songs. The biggest difference is that the Isbells make more use of electronics and they have a more"natural sound". On Gaëtan's album the emphasis remains on the beautiful songs and melodies.

Opener The Sun is a hell of a song/single. Monday Morning convinces us also. A Thousand Miles is quite nice, there's plenty of space in the song, a darker atmosphere and a nice guitar line in the chorus. It reminds me at times vaguely of Oscar & The Wolf. Little Girl is a song from the same stable as The Sun: Milow would certainly be jealous.

Today is the shortest song (1.17) and sounds like a modern lullaby. Simple but penetrating. The low voice in Up to you gives the song a sense of experience (think Mark Lanegan in light version ), but it is primarily a brilliant song. Also note the fine percussion, keys and beautiful harmonies. Top.

One of a Kind has a lovely humming bass and a leading role for the keyboards. The Way You Talk About It has many beautiful details: the bass, light voice, distorted percussion.

The instrumental The Moon closes the album nicely. One with enough variation in each songs. A very beautiful album.

Het was niet zo simpel om de groepsnaam en de nummers op de hoes te ontcijferen, ze staan namelijk in fonetisch schrift. Gelukkig bestaat er Spotify, waar alles gewoon geschreven staat. Deze band is een solo/nevenproject van Gaëtan Vandewoude die tevens deel uitmaakt van Isbells. Dat merk je een beetje aan dit album, het ligt wat in dezelfde lijn. Met name de vlotte en mooi uitgewerkte popsongs van Gaëtan. Zijn eerder zachte stem drukt ook hier z'n stempel op de songs. Het grootste verschil met Isbells is dat er wat meer gebruik van elektronica wordt gemaakt, terwijl je bij Bij Isbells een iets “natuurlijker geluid” hoort, alhoewel de nadruk op de mooie songs en melodieën blijft liggen.

Opener The Sun is meteen raak: een dijk van een nummer/single. Ook Monday Morning kan ons overtuigen. A Thousand Miles is heel mooi, er is veel ruimte in de song, een wat donkere sfeer en een leuke gitaarlijn in het refrein. Het doet mij bij momenten vaag aan Oscar and The Wolf denken. Little Girl is een nummertje uit dezelfde stal als The Sun: eentje waarop Milow waarschijnlijk jaloers kon zijn.

Today is het kortste liedje (1.17) en het klinkt als een modern slaapliedje. Eenvoudig, maar indringend. Up to you klinkt met die lage stem heel doorleefd (denk aan Mark Lanegan in lightversie), maar het is in de eerste plaats een schitterende song. Let ook op de fijne percussie, keys en de mooie samenzang. Top.

One of a Kind heeft een heerlijke brommende bas en een hoofdrol voor de keyboards. The Way You Talk About It heeft veel mooie details, van de bas, de lichte stemvervorming tot de percussie.

Met het instrumentale The Moon wordt het album mooi afgesloten. Een album met de nodige afwisseling en met stuk voor stuk goede nummers. Een heel geslaagd album.
